Typical of Patrick Leonard, the ballads here work better than the faster numbers. "Express Yourself" would get better when remixed by Shep Pettibone, as Patrick Leonard has never been much of a dance producer.

For me, this is a close call between "Dear Jessie", "Oh Father" and "Spanish Eyes", but going for the latter because few others will. And, no, I don't dislike the title track either. And also love "Promise To Try" and "Love Song". Excellent album!

I love Like a Prayer and Express Yourself, but Oh Father is on a completely different level in Madonna's catalogue.

I love "Dear Jessie" and so do you - admit it. A good album but its highs are not as high as the ones on "True Blue" and "Erotica", despite the title track's iconicity.

what you know about hat? I know all about hat. (edwardo), Monday, 16 February 2009 04:58 (seventeen years ago)

Title track, duh. Her summit.

Love "Cherish" and "Keep It Together", but it's the title track.

I don't think "Til Death Do Us Part" gets respect -- one of her very best album tracks. It's so straightforward.

one year passes...

the title track is def the best song here, but the hidden gem is "act of contrition". Madge fervently whispering the confessional prayer + Prince's crashing guitar solo + those reverse choir tape loops + enraged screaming about reservations/computers = pop gold.
