Loss Leader, awesome song.

― Frank Sumatra (NickB), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:20 (seventeen years ago)

i'll go with D - the most classic Codeine song, but every human being should listen to Broken Hearted wine
at least one time in his life

― Zeno, Monday, 16 February 2009 12:22 (seventeen years ago)

ooh. it's between both sides of the the realize/BHW single, tom, and D. will need to think

they made good single choices

― electrodribble sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:23 (seventeen years ago)

Don't know any of these:

broken heated wine
something new
atmosphere (joy division cover)
two faced man (suicide cover)
castle
A L'Ombre De Nous
Produkt

...apart from Castle which was on some crappy Glitterhouse singles boxed set.

― Frank Sumatra (NickB), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

there's a peel session version of broken hearted wine on a sub pop peel sessions comp.. totally worth hearing.

― electrodribble sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:34 (seventeen years ago)

Will have to try and find that, thanks for the tip. Sort of exciting to discover worthwhile new (at least new to me) material this late in the day.

― Frank Sumatra (NickB), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:40 (seventeen years ago)

the joy division cover is also awesome,
good cadidate for the bst JD cover ever imo

― Zeno, Monday, 16 February 2009 12:45 (seventeen years ago)

One more Codeine song that is totally worth finding is the version of 'Pea' that they did with Bitch Magnet on the 'Valmead' 12". That was from the Frigid Stars period I think, so it's that sort of sound.

― Frank Sumatra (NickB), Monday, 16 February 2009 12:58 (seventeen years ago)

mmm so many.
loss leader and tom are topz, but also big on gravel bed.

― ian, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:51 (seventeen years ago)

i'll throw sand in your eye.
i need a reason to smile.

― ian, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:52 (seventeen years ago)

Where is "French Fries with Pepper"? That is one of my favoritiest songs ever.

― i'm shy (Abbott), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

When I'm in party mode ,which is most nights, I always turn to the superior version of the Seam song 'New Year's' for a boogie

― Fer Ark, Monday, 16 February 2009 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

loss leader for best quiet/loud

― wilter, Monday, 16 February 2009 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

There's a link to the mighty Bitch Magnet/Codeine version of 'Pea' here. Much better than the acoustic version that was tacked on to the end of the Frigid Stars CD, well worth a listen.

― Frank Sumatra (NickB), Monday, 16 February 2009 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

"Pea" was a serious omission to this poll. And what about "3 Angels", the b-side to Pick-Up Song?

Classic band.

― Duke, Sunday, 19 September 2010 11:14 (sixteen years ago)

― Heroic melancholy continues to have a forceful grip on (bernard snowy), Thursday, 9 July 2015 00:57 (eleven years ago)

summer of slowcore revival but this time, we'll call it... shrugwave!

not surprised this has zero votes, but it's pretty charming all the same

given the glacial pace of their music, it's very important to get the hooks in early, which several of the songs here really excel at

She stands next to the cigarrette machine
"This device has got it made," she thinks.
It has a cast iron stomach
But a candle for a heart.

― bentelec, Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:09 (eleven years ago)

So glad I got to see them on their brief reunion tour a couple of years ago. One of the most satisfying reunions. I would have voted "Broken Hearted Wine".

― anthony braxton diamond geezer (anagram), Thursday, 9 July 2015 09:26 (eleven years ago)
