resident advice whore (haitch), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:16 (seventeen years ago)

new "i wonder if someone will do a europhoric piano house mix" answers

resident advice whore (haitch), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:22 (seventeen years ago)

works for me but judging by last time this could end up taking longer than a month

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:23 (seventeen years ago)

a deadline is a good thing i think

tricky, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:26 (seventeen years ago)

so was there actually a poll last time er what?

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:30 (seventeen years ago)

there was not! everyone went "hey, cool mixes!" and then forgot about it. we deffo should do a poll this time.

resident advice whore (haitch), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 06:33 (seventeen years ago)

i am doing euphoric disco house ...

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 07:42 (seventeen years ago)

ill do this

hey Ethan am I funny yet? (and what), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 07:46 (seventeen years ago)

The trance mix I did for the last comp turned out pretty good, might have another go.

no-nonsense, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 08:09 (seventeen years ago)

i wanna do this

rio (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 09:23 (seventeen years ago)

i did a messy clattering 15 min remix of Fingers by tape last night and have been doing a lot of similar bits recently so i might stick 5 of them together and call it a dj set

straightola, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

OK, what are the rules?

You know, I might have a go at this tonight, but if you're just gonna say stuff like "ugh, tingtngs" then why should I? Hmm?

(OK, not exactly serious there, but..)

The mixies I like (as a touchstone) is some of Andy Votel's stuff, and some of the mixtapes I used to do (back when it was all cassettes) were not "whoa, seamless link" but more "YOU SEQUE'D IVOR CUTLER INTO DE LA SOUL???"

so, yeah? or noh?

Mark G, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 09:58 (seventeen years ago)

Yo Moonship, wrong thread, but I really liked your bogus mix. Have you got a trackilist for that? I got Chaz Jankel, DJ Friction (by googling the lyrics!) and the Primal Scream.

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 10:05 (seventeen years ago)

hmm ... sorry no dj friction!

gary davis - professor's here (40 thieves mix)
idjut boys - oochie koochie
chaz jankel - get myself together
roger troutman - chunk of sugar (theo parrish ugly edit)
yellow sox - flim flam
harlem zip code - i feel music
united eye - ska east of west
centrific - light rails
moodymann - det.riot 67
terry brookes ft aaron soul - city life (carl craig max mix)
sound stream - makin love
witch queen - all right now
primal scream - come together (weatherall mix)
adriano celentano - prisencolinensinaciusol (greg wilson edit)

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 10:53 (seventeen years ago)

Ha! The perils of googling the lyrics!

The one that goes "i feel music in your eyes rainbows in your kiss", so harlem zip code? - he must sample it.

Thanks

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 11:03 (seventeen years ago)

idjut boys = phantom slasher "oochie coochie"

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

Ach, I recorded what was one of my better mixes a few weeks ago, but accidentally deleted it! At least an excuse to remake it, but better.

mehlt, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Will there be download links?

davek_00, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'm in

dmr, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

might be an idea to upload everything to a fairtilizer page to consolidate everything, perhaps?

mehlt, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

mark g: the rules are as you see them; if you wanna do a votel-type mix then who am i to say no.

davek_00: the way it happened last time was that people linked to their mixes once they were done, mostly on free hosting sites. i'm unfamiliar with fairtilizer, that sounds like it would be a good thing to do if they can do that!

resident advice whore (haitch), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i reckon fairtilizer is the best bet

rio (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

I hosted mine myself and it's still there, download and read all about it here:

started work on mine today, tracks picked, title decided. i'll be using mp3s + serato scratch live.

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:13 (seventeen years ago)

i tried for euphoric piano house, but i don't have enough to make it work. went for "eclectic filter house" instead.

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

uggh what

harry s tfuman (and what), Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

i was anticipating a euphoric piano house mix

harry s tfuman (and what), Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

sorry :-(

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

got lots of horn & string stabs though

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 21 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

I don't imagine this is the sort of mix anyone has in mind--but I'll throw this one in there:

DJ name? Um. . . Soundslike? DJ Soundslike? heh

Mixed using Acid for final mix, running tracks through an old soundcard's effects processor for the dub/"versions;" "remixes"/edits done with Soundforge.

Dig the looks of that one, T.N.G.--did you do edits for every track, or somehow beatmatch-ish them?

Soundslike, Sunday, 22 February 2009 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

downloaded yours soundslike, i'll have a listen now.

i tried to beatmatch them as much as possible but there's a bit of chopping and changing in there.

the next grozart, Sunday, 22 February 2009 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

just realised it's a bit over the 55-65 limit. count the last few tracks as bonus ones. you can stop the mix off early if you like.

http://fairtilizer.com/track/25762

1. bronski beat “infatuation”
2. paul haig “heaven sent”
3. new order “i don’t care”
4. fleetwood mac “bonus beats)”

7. ministry “over the shoulder”
8. depeche mode “release mix)”
9. severed heads “propellor”
10. gabi delgado “victim”
11. pet shop boys “francois k dub)”

recorded into logic with 1 x belt drive turntable, 1 x direct drive turntable and 1 x crappy mixer that randomly drops the right channel every now and then. all vinyl, no post production, edits, or volume adjustment so you may need to turn up or down accordingly.

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 12 March 2009 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

dmr, Friday, 13 March 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

I've been contemplating making a part 2 the same style of mix, anyone really like it :? :D

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 22 March 2009 00:36 (sixteen years ago)

there was some volume problems on the red red meat song, because of the .mp3, I oughta fix that first

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 22 March 2009 00:36 (sixteen years ago)

i'm definitely not complaining about a lack of good mixes being posted- elan, vahid, jax and rio turned out really awesome stuff in the last week or so, and i am looking forward to maybe a couple more?

i'll be posting soon btw- i have a decent mix but i've been trying to do some after-effects with the kaos pad and the levels keep turning out all fucked up. tomorrow i should be finished tinkering though...

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 07:32 (sixteen years ago)

man damn y'all credibility-possessing motherfuckers making me feel like I'm submitting a Ministry of Sound tryout tape but what the hell. sorry about all the attempts at retarded long transitions; I started listening to DJ mixes back in the day w/ Sasha and Digweed.

SHAMEFUL DRUNKEN ADMISSIONS THEATRER: I have been lurking on ILX long enough that sometime back in the day I thought LOL I SHOULD CALL THIS GET ONE HOUR

this is the sixteenth one of those

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 09:13 (sixteen years ago)

so far, so good! i'm impressed with the mix. is there extra reverb on it or are all the tracks originally this dubby? (i don't know these tracks)

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 09:20 (sixteen years ago)

also, did you do this in acid? i am looking into getting acid.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 09:22 (sixteen years ago)

first few are definitely kinda dubby, but I figure it snaps to attention when it goes all Aeroplane-y

also aw shux~

EDIT: no, Mixmeister:

http://www.mixmeister.com/

honestly, I just started using it a billion years ago (2001ish) and it hasn't let me down so far. I actually got acquainted to it by pirating it, but for whatever reason it clicked with me that I paid both OEM price and retail price for it out of sheer brand loyalty in the years since. apparently nobody uses it for anything for anything other than podcast assemblage, but it's served me well whenever I get an itch to mush a bunch of tracks I like together.

ANYWAY I've also used Acid in the past and it's relatively similar; MixMeister makes more sense if you're just looking to mix tracks together imo.

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 09:29 (sixteen years ago)

well, "snaps to attention" before "snap"(ping) once again "to attention" w/ the Discodeine song, that is

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 10:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm reposting this one with the link corrected as the one above don't work no more.

i got insanely frustrated trying those after-effects with the kaos pad because it always ended up with such shit sound quality in certain parts (not sure why yet- presumably has something to do with rerecording the thing in general? weirdly enough the effects themselves sounded great). anyway, i decided just to up this thing AS IS, since the original copy still sounds much much better than any of those dubs. hope you all can stomach my mixing!...

recorded to audacity with all vinyl, but as you will likely notice a lot of it wasn't exactly salvageable from tons of scratchiness. it takes awhile to get off the ground, but the atmosphere is nice enough (i hope). again, lots of jerky mixes and amateurishness throughout

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 17:48 (sixteen years ago)

which kaoss pad do you have?

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 18:28 (sixteen years ago)

the kp-3, which i love but have yet to master (there are a TON of effects to play with)

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)

hmm i am thinking of buying one of those so i am a little disturbed to hear about the soudn quality. you say it sounds OK out of a source but sounds bad when you record?

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

oh no, the sound quality problems were def not coming from the kaos pad itself. i feed pretty much anything i listen to through it actually (including the original mix- i use it as a sort of extra gain knob sometimes), so i know it sounds fine.

still not sure, but i think i was running into problems because i was re-recording the mix via itunes. it really only mattered with the bass sounds in certain songs, which i tried to remedy in audacity but it kept sounding bad each time. again, the parts where i actually used the kaos sounded pretty good, and i was verrry close to posting it like that, too. but for whatever reason the bass after i converted to mp3 was too bleary and distracting. it's probably just a matter of fine tuning the levels, actually, but i'm only noticing the problem once everything is all finished and converted, so i just gave up.

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

I am only probably 3/4 of the way through part one so far but your mix is v. good

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

also I reupped mine to divshare so yall don't have to download my 320k boondoggle:

http://www.divshare.com/download/6888740-c6d

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

thx! i dig yours too, but there has to be some extra reverb or something on that llop track

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

honestly that's just what it's like! I wouldn't even know how to go about adding reverb in mixmeister (a word I hate more every time I type it).

also yr mix has convinced me to give Brennan Green another shot

jamescobo, Sunday, 22 March 2009 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

well, that track has studio playing on it as well, so i'm not sure it counts. i dig a few of his newer tracks/remixes though

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Sunday, 22 March 2009 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

btw i finally 'confirmed' my divshare account, so if anyone for whatever reason tried to download my mix and was denied, here's the link again

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Monday, 23 March 2009 22:07 (sixteen years ago)

So. . . I made a bonus mix featuring 50 minutes of house and techno and whatnot, all at 115bpm, and suitable to bring home to your parents. Largely inspired by listening to samples of The Grandfather Paradox, which I probably should actually hear. It's a good one though, you may have to manually adjust volume though.

i did a mix too! like all my mixes, this one was done without any preplanning. I knew what song I wanted to start with so I sorted my library by bpm and hit record. there are lots of bits in here that ILM folks will enjoy including: Horace Andy, Mordant Music, Lindstrom + Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, Blackbelt Anderson, Kanye West, Royksopp and more.

i am the eye in the sky... (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 07:56 (sixteen years ago)

lol, this thread slipped my mind! oops.

should we keep it open until the end of the weekend? some people might get motivated to do one with the easter break at their disposal.

BACKSTORY SINCE I AM BAKED AND EXPANSIVE AND THIS DAMN THING IS STILL UPLOADING WTF RAPIDSHARE I GAVE YOU MY MONEY

so last week I started a new job and found myself surrounded by people with Fall Out Boy fans. my new coworkers seem to be thoroughly respectable folk and I really feel like an immature ass for instinctively getting all judgy, but they're all - and I mean all - outspoken mallpunk emo/Rolling Stone-canon diehards; they keep bringing up the Doors or Avenged Sevenfold in reverent tones and my gut just starts screaming GRAAAAAH MUST FIX. so a few days ago I sat down to make a mix for the office CD player; I ended up scrapping that plan once it dawned on me how desperately I was flirting with indefensible That Guy behavior (also the office cute girl inevitably confirmed my suspicions that she had a boyfriend), but I ended up having enough fun with the MixMeister template that I kept working on it until it developed into some Back To Mine-y carefully-arranged, freewheelingly-mixed overview of stuff I'm listening to these days. I just tried to keep it relatively close to the original idea of making something I could play around normal foax, partly for the fun but also because I had already come up with cover art:
