Some bullshit based around samples of an 80s electropop song that ILM stans would be declaring SINGLE OF THE YEAR OMG in March and had forgotten about by December.

Does it even take that long? (After all, the Animal Collective album is already forgotten about.)

most of aaliyah's singles still sound good though.

this thread had potential, will post youtubes and try to salvage it:

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:38 (seventeen years ago)

this is a good question - i wonder if you could just replace furtado w/ her, but i think the aaliyah/tim tracks were always much more sexual and sensual than what furtado and tim did, but i guess we'd never know if they would've just grown into that sound anyway. i really wonder how this would've effected 01-04 missy/tim

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

i think maybe she would've had a bright, jazzy, fun single like "one thing"

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

The only Timbo/Furtado song that is vaguely Aaliyah-esque is "Say It Right" which I could definitely hear her doing.

ya i was thinking that too

yeah i feel like she had the integrity to warrant this kind of prediction

I think Tweet's first album and is much more in the realm of what Aaliyah would've been doing if she hadn't passed... even though Timbo only did two tracks on that one, the overall sound is very much in the Aaliyah vein - lush, wistful, romantic, somewhat depressive... and Aaliyah was trying to make a name for herself away from Timbo so I think it's entirely possibly that her 4th album wouldn't have had any Timbo tracks at all...

And I don't know about her doing a One Thing type track, but "Rolling Down My Face" off of that same album seems like something she would've done:

^^^good post & v otm

gucci mane gretzky (deej), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:56 (seventeen years ago)

Also this song screams Aaliyah to me:

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:57 (seventeen years ago)

also the quintessential "song aaliyah would've sung":

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:52 (seventeen years ago)

three years pass...

A Best of Both Worlds-type album with Ariel Pink called AA Batteries.
