SCRATCH (from The Roots) - "The Embodiment of Instrumentation"
(The 1st total beatbox lp)
I just had an interview with him and will be posting it on my site soon..
still.. this lp is DOPE!!!! IT grew on me!! I always liked it but it's REALLY DOPE now..
Guests include: M.A.R.S. Co-op, Rich Medina, Schoolz of Thought, Flo Brown, Spon, Ciph Born, D-Ruck, Stamma a.k.a Steve Sterling, Sherif Davis, Ridij Mateen, Jarrett Miles, Floetry, Calente, and E.S.T
SCRATCH does ALL the production... except for one song "What U Missin" was co-produced by 88 Keys.
There is a dope VARIETY to the album too.
Even though most of it is straight hardcore hiphop...there are other styles:
"Peoples Gettin Rich" with Stamma is a reggee/dub track
"Breath Of Fresh Air" with Sherif Davis is a dope jazz instrumental!
"Sqaure One" f/Bilal is a dope soul joint
"3 Barstoolz Away" is a spoken word joint
"What Happ'n" with Floetry is another spoken word/poetry joint
My favz are
"That's What I'm Talkin' About" f/Dice Raw, Calente, and E.S.T
"You Know The Rulez" f/Black Thought, Malik B and MARS Co-op
"The World Iz..." f/ Schoolz Of Thought
"Breath Of Fresh Air" f/Sherif Davis
"Sqaure One" f/Bilal
"Something U Been Missin"
ALL The beats are thick and natural.. There are only 2 tracks that have actual instruments. "Breath Of Fresh Air" and "Something U Been Missing".. All the others are totally made from SCRATCH's mouth..
It's incredible..
The lp flows well too. None of the songs are too long and they don't get boring. It amazes me how he can keep the rhythem going and keep time..
It's MUCH better than the RAHZEL album!!
(I give it a 4.3 out of 5)
