unbelievably bad. hurt to watch. ironic hipster trash
― jaxon, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)
music in the summer song wasn't too bad though
just read that article, it's funny, I don't have any cracked audio software any more and the only software I've paid for beyond my DAW is an Audio Damage plug-in. Discord v2, modeled after the Harmonizer that Tony Visconti used on the drums on the Bowie/Eno/Iggy Pop Berlin records.
http://www.audiodamage.com/effects/product.php?pid=AD011
it's pretty cool.
― dan selzer, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)
jaxon, this is why I like you :) when i saw him open for LCD Soundsystem a couple years ago i was honestly embarrassed for him - aside from being the worst act i'd seen in years and years, my thoughts were pretty much exactly as you said: ironic hipster trash. what a load of bullshit, and the whole software stealing thing seems to fit right in with the aesthetic. ugh.
― mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 7 August 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

― omar little, Friday, 7 August 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)
I saw him/them at a festival last year and had a good time! I guess seeing them do a bar show you are missing a few vital ingredients: sunshine, cider, and the knowledge that by being in this tent you are missing some really shitty alt-country acts on every other stage
― a passing spacecadet, Friday, 7 August 2009 18:47 (sixteen years ago)
I bet they'd be at their best outside, I liked their video where they were just performing on the street.
― The Worst Chef in America!! (u s steel), Friday, 7 August 2009 21:39 (sixteen years ago)
mike, it mighta been the same lcd show. i know it's kinda hard to do electronic stuff live, but maybe if he got a band instead of just him onstage dancing like an asshole singing along to the songs. just reminded me of the worst electroclash shit.
― jaxon, Friday, 7 August 2009 21:53 (sixteen years ago)

Is the live show just him now? When I saw him it was him + computer slideshow/animation + a woman, also singing and dancing (I don't think it was her from The Blow cz I think they'd parted ways by then). Which was I guess a bit more to look at than just him - the dancing would've been kind of corny on its own, but they were pretty sharply synchronised.

i see what you mean. that's a good point.
i don't think the target of this joke/stunt is victims of revenge porn
Well I don't either, but to exploit the epidemic of it just to drum up interest in a new single maybe a few thousand people would ordinarily care about in hopes that a few thousand would become several thousand just pisses me off. Debut your video on Pornhub or something. Don't write a big sympathetic post about someone betrayed your trust when no such fucking thing ever happened to you. People have to write real versions of that post every day, and doing so makes that probably the worst day of their lives. For YACHT, it was completely artificial and money-driven.

i do not know, but i think a lot of the discussion around the white rainbow and the healthcliff beru incidents are that these men are often known to be dangerous in scenes but somehow enabled and not called out on their behavior for many years

new △pology from Y△CHT:
First off, we’re sorry. The reaction to this endeavor highlights a glaring error we made in positioning ourselves as the victims of a leaked sex tape. We understand that positioning it that way from the beginning was an egregious mistake, and are so ashamed we hadn’t considered this beforehand.Yes, this was all a “hoax” or “PR stunt,” and one we were so excited to share. While there is inherent deception in pulling a hoax, it was never our intention to mock or make light of anyone who has been a victim of a privacy violation like the one we mentioned. This was a lazy starting point for what we wanted to be a much more fun story about the expectations of a sex tape and the frenzy surrounding the taboo of sex, especially juxtaposed with our own non-celebrity. We failed to tell that story. Instead we told a much darker and more disturbing story. We’ve been going back and forth on what to do about the music video this was all supposed to lead up to. We were leaning towards not releasing it at all, but we think it’s important that people be able to see and assess for themselves our intent. So here it is: https://www.facebook.com/JashNetwork/videos/1145980565466351/We take full responsibility for what has happened, and we are truly sorry. We know we’ve broken a bond of trust with many of our fans and friends. Thank you to those that called us out and helped us to understand the gravity of the mistake we made. We should not have hinged this entire project on the fiction that we were the victims of a leaked tape, and we’re equally disappointed in ourselves for taking so long to get over being shocked at the response and write this apology. After all is said and done, of course you should be mad at us. We’re mad at us too.Love,Jona & ClairePS: We’re sorry for our shitty non-apology yesterday, too. There’s no justifying it. We clearly didn’t get it then. We get it now.
― Treeship, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 18:16 (nine years ago)
