Another new YYY's track has leaked; Heads will Roll. kanye leaked it in his blog yesterday. You can stream or download here:http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/index.php?em3106=224359_-1__0_~0_-1_2_2009_0_0&eM
There's links for it all over.I think this is a lot better than Zero.

All signs point to It's Blitz! being a really good album, so far.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 22 February 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)
Someone tell me what that bassline is a steal from, it's doing my head in!
― piscesx, Monday, 23 February 2009 07:28 (seventeen years ago)
lol at kanye
this is dope
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 08:17 (seventeen years ago)
Whole lp is out and about on the interwebz now, btw. It's...perplexing.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 February 2009 08:19 (seventeen years ago)
like perplexing in a definitely a misstep way or perplexing in a this end up being awful way
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 08:21 (seventeen years ago)
Perplexing in a "this isn't ever what I expected from a YYYs album, but they make it work and we'll see if it gets better or worse with repeated listens" way.
I don't want to just throw it in a disco synth rock ghetto, because it's a little more expansive than that. There's some real atmosphere. It's more moody than "Zero" or "Heads Will Roll" would suggest.

ehhh.... kinda disappointing, both of those are really great and have an intense build-up
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 08:31 (seventeen years ago)
(can we get a mod to make this the "It's Blitz!" thread?)
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 February 2009 08:42 (seventeen years ago)
A very tenuous link I'll admit but 'Hysteric' sounds a bit like Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere'.
Maybe it's just the "ooh's" and "ahh's".
― Hazy, Monday, 23 February 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)
"Heads Will Roll" = "This is Not a PIL Song" in the best possible way.
― fucking in the streets, Monday, 23 February 2009 19:46 (seventeen years ago)
a lot of the album is amazing
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 21:03 (seventeen years ago)
"hysteric" is beautiful
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 21:05 (seventeen years ago)
loving this. gtr riff in 'dull life' sounds like blink 182
― 6335, Monday, 23 February 2009 22:16 (seventeen years ago)
Done. I have just nabbed this and listening now. So psyched!
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2009 22:46 (seventeen years ago)
Okay the first two tracks are euphoric and incredible, I really didn't expect this. Sound is huge!
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2009 22:51 (seventeen years ago)
Holy crap... Shame And Fortune.
This is astonishing so far. Fuck an Animal Collective, this is how you do trance-rock.
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2009 23:09 (seventeen years ago)
It's a re-interpretation of "Blue Monday".
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Monday, 23 February 2009 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
Little Shadow is beyond gorgeous.
Album of the year. I'm embarassingly hyping calling it.
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2009 23:26 (seventeen years ago)
BEST FUCKING NIGHT EVER
― the pinefox, Monday, 23 February 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)
Little Shadow is completely sublime.
Still on the fence about a lot of it, though.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 February 2009 23:35 (seventeen years ago)
It's all basically the same, but that one thing it sounds like is really fucking good. It's like they heard that Ada cover of Maps from 2004 and then tried to recreate that sound, except with washes of fuzzy guitar and bass and big drums. At first listen I thought it was full of electronics but now I'm not so sure.
It's really shoegazey but at the same time muscular and bassy and rhythmic enough to avoid sounding bland or flat or wishy-washy in the way so much shoegazing-influenced music does these days.
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2009 23:48 (seventeen years ago)
It's a uniform sound, yes, but some songs aren't really as good as others.

― Bee OK, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 03:24 (seventeen years ago)
man imo show your bones was so much better than their debut
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 03:27 (seventeen years ago)
nah it wasn't but it is a good album.

Fever to Tell edges Show Your Bones for me, but they're both really good.

they're the second best rock band this decade tho, i celebrate the entire discography

― Bee OK, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 03:32 (seventeen years ago)
i like them as a sorta mellow half classic rock band and as this nu blondie or w/e much more than i like them as snotty rawr punks

― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 03:35 (seventeen years ago)
Wow. This album is pretty bad. Well, at least 50% of it is good. There is some really unimaginative and boring filler on this album, though. Fuck. I was hoping they'd claw people's faces off with this one. :(

'hysteric' is incredible. i really really like this, and i need to listen to it more

1. Zero 4:252. Heads Will Roll 3:413. Skeletons 5:024. Hysteric 3:505. Little Shadow 3:57
^^^ would make a fantastic EP.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 09:04 (seventeen years ago)
runaway and dragon queen are outstanding as well tho
― suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 09:04 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah I'd go with that - didn't really rate the first album, really liked the second and love this one. But the bits I liked the most on Show Your Bones were the gentler and more expansive bits (Turn Into, Dudley, Honeybear) which explains why I like this one so much.
Soft Shock is lovely as well.
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 09:17 (seventeen years ago)
yeah a lot of these songs have that effortless upward motion like "turn into" (maybe my favorite song by them after "maps") that just empties your stomach out
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 February 2009 09:26 (seventeen years ago)
Definitely something else in there too. I'm not quite sure what, though.
― James Mitchell, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 16:45 (seventeen years ago)
Reminds me a lot of Rihanna's Shut Up and Drive - obviously because of the Blue Monday bassline but also the overall sound.
― Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:01 (seventeen years ago)
"Heads Will Roll" - GAD!
― The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:05 (seventeen years ago)
my favourite YYYs stuff will probably always be the really, really kick-ass RAWR ones - 'bang', 'date with the night' - but i don't think i'd want them to go back to that at this point - agree w/matt that it's their most expansive material which seems most natural now ('turn into' is just gorgeous..)
on one listen i'm pretty happy w/this album but i'll need to go back when not so distracted
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)
i'll also have to go back to show your bones b/c my general impression was of a middling album bookended by an incredible two singles
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:21 (seventeen years ago)
I feel like people never give the YYYs guitar player enough credit. He's incredible. Seeing them live I'm always just kind of amazed that he can create that amount of sound with one guitar and control it so well.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:27 (seventeen years ago)
i agree he's a huge part of the band's appeal to me. i was telling jordan last night that one of the things i love about them is how the guitars tend to drive the melody, giving karen o room to do whatever she wants to do, and she's got this great range of emotions she's capable of
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 24 February 2009 17:35 (seventeen years ago)
love love love all three albums myself

I was listening to it on my way to work this morning. <3
― ENBB, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
nice! i liked it a bunch when it came out but it didn't get a lot of spins for some reason. hearing it today with the tempts up outside and little patches of grey clouds rolling by, it's just perfect
― Aerosol, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)
this was my Favorite Band for a while and this album is fantastic.
― difficult listening hour, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)
TBH they're still one of my favorite more recent/current bands if not my absolute fav. They're just really great and, yeah, this album is wonderful. Gonna listen to it on the way home too, I think.
― ENBB, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)
The rest of the album can't match "Heads Will Roll" and "Zero," but I still love it.
― Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 18 March 2011 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
Those are definitely its stars.
Was actually listening to some older tunes the other day. <3 Y-Control so much.
― ENBB, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)
I am going to play Rock Band tonight and I will sing Maps which is still amazing fuiud. The video is really heartbreaking too esp if you read about the shoot.
― ENBB, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
tbh I feel like the rest of the album can't match "Dull Life", "Blame & Fortune" and "Runaway"
― ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Friday, 18 March 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
Listened to this today, actually. I went through, I think, a year and a half where I just wasn't listening to new music anymore at all, then I heard Hysteric and thought "damn, I'm missing things."
― ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Friday, 18 March 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
Maps and Y Control still kick much ass. Maps makes me wanna bang.
― The Scenario (chrisv2010), Friday, 18 March 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)
Bang is another good YYY song!

Also, Our Time.
so many really
Blasting this record right now. Fantastic, really great album. Love it lots.
What are they up to? Recording again yet? Surely! C'mon! There's gonna be a "Parellel Lines" from this lot I reckon.
― kraudive, Saturday, 1 September 2012 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
They're booked for the Big Day Outs in January, so I'm hoping we'll hear some new stuff.
Quite possible that It's Blitz is their Parallel Lines.
― Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 1 September 2012 22:50 (thirteen years ago)
It's Blitz is wonderful but I want three top ten hit singles worthy of wedding parties. Karen O on the cover of every magazine. A truly exceptional cross-over guitar pop album.
But then. Whatever they do is fine by me. They've done pretty good so far following their own thing.
― kraudive, Saturday, 1 September 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)
"Heads Will Roll" = one of the best singles of the last ten years.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 September 2012 23:14 (thirteen years ago)
It's strange how they are seem to be really popular with the public and the critics but they just don't seem to have hit singles or even sell that many albums. If they haven't had breakthrough hits with some of their singles so far, I don't know what it will take for them to get in the top 10.
Here are their UK chart positions. I didn't realise how badly the It's Blitz singles did. Cheated Hearts failure is the most shocking, it's easily my favourite single of theirs.
"Machine" 37 "Date with the Night"16"Pin" 29"Maps" 26"Y Control" 54"Gold Lion" 18 "Turn Into" 53"Cheated Hearts" -"Down Boy" -"Zero" 49 "Heads Will Roll" 89"Skeletons" -

I still love this album to bits. I think I like Zero and Heads will Roll equally tbh. They were awesome when I saw them on the tour for this album. <3

yeah "heads will roll" is amazing
― young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 2 September 2012 03:16 (thirteen years ago)
truly fantastic album and I never cared for YYYs before that. I still get the "you are chrome" line stuck in my head all the time - sounds so badass
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 2 September 2012 07:47 (thirteen years ago)
"in your room" may not have the born-to-be-wild declamation of zero or heads will roll but is better than them imo
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 2 September 2012 12:45 (thirteen years ago)
of the nu-wave class these guys came the closest to making a Parallel Lines - sure beats Tonight, Our Love To Admire and First Impressions of Earth - but I wish I understood why they take at least three years between albums because it really cuts down their momentum.
I also don't get why "Soft Shock" wasn't a single.
― da croupier, Sunday, 2 September 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)
christ, in the time it took YYYs to release three albums, Blondie was already up to The Hunter
― da croupier, Sunday, 2 September 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)

Soft Shock is probably my favourite song on the album, that or Little Shadow.
I'm happy to call It's Blitz their Parallel Lines. Really looking forward to their Eat To The Beat, which is my favourite Blondie album these days.

"Dull Life" owns
― DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Monday, 3 September 2012 02:00 (thirteen years ago)
'Dragon Queen' is the only one I find I want to skip, less because it's outright bad but because it doesn't quite fit. Otherwise this is still an amazing album.
― Matt DC, Monday, 3 September 2012 11:40 (thirteen years ago)
"dragon queen" is one of my favourites
― lex pretend, Monday, 3 September 2012 11:52 (thirteen years ago)
it's so light and untethered
I think it sounds kinda flimsy and fish-out-of-water.
― Matt DC, Monday, 3 September 2012 13:11 (thirteen years ago)
I think it sounds bright and buoyant
I'm much more likely to skip "Short Shock" & "Skeletons"

i keep calling Soft Shock "In Your Room", which i think is a sign of how often i just let this album play through instead of picking individual titles out
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 3 September 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)
My favorite song on this is probably "Runaway" but the song I sing the most is "Dragon Queen"; that chorus just embedded itself into my brain
― DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Monday, 3 September 2012 16:46 (thirteen years ago)
love the endless needling guitars in it and the DUB bassline
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 3 September 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)
I'm still hoping they release an album / DVD of "Stop the Virgens" because there were some great songs in that. songs I can still sing in my head from only hearing them once, live, last October.
there were a ton of cameras there shooting but so far it's only yielded a "making of" mini-doc on the Creators Project website.
― dmr, Monday, 3 September 2012 18:03 (thirteen years ago)
"dragon queen" is fantastic, easily one of my favorite tracks on the album
― i know your nuts hurt! who's laughing? (contenderizer), Monday, 3 September 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
album is kind of backloaded, imo. not taking anything away from "zero" and "heads will roll", but the album's strongest stretch is the run from "runaway" through "little shadow"
― i know your nuts hurt! who's laughing? (contenderizer), Monday, 3 September 2012 18:38 (thirteen years ago)
Not enough people repping for "hysteric" after the revive. So I'm doing that.
― Mule, Monday, 3 September 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
seeing people repping for so many different songs just remind me how rich this album is. Might be worth polling it
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 3 September 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
Make it happen. Could be exciting.
― Mule, Monday, 3 September 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)
Backloaded, huh? I think it's too short an album to be loaded in either direction, and besides, it starts out so awesome. I even love the Clannad-isms of "Skeletons" and the ever-shifting "Dull Life." If anything, the strong ending to the record is a real treat. Anyway, it's hard to conceive of an album as backloaded when the first two songs are "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll." That's like saying, I dunno, that the first Boston record starts out OK, but really gets going with "Let Me Take You Home Tonight."
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 September 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
