The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 23 February 2009 01:13 (seventeen years ago)

that's what i like about these lpi intern girls, man. i get older, they stay the same age.

Survivor - Destiny's Child
Songs in A Minor - Alicia Keys
Aaliyah - Aaliyah
The Blueprint - Jay-Z
The Great Depression - DMX
Britney - Britney Spears

^^these are all absolute classics of their genre and i love them all dearly - 2001 was my first year of university, but even apart from it being a v formative new chapter of my music-listening life, it was probably about as magnificent a year as you can get. just so much going on everywhere. i'll probably go with aaliyah due to it being my favourite album EVER.

all for you is also a fine album and while i never heard the whole of j-lo, its singles were pretty unfuckwithable.

lex pretend, Monday, 23 February 2009 01:37 (seventeen years ago)

As I voted for "1" last time around, I considered going for something else. But there was nothing worthy of my vote, so, "1" again.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 23 February 2009 01:37 (seventeen years ago)

By no means I would call 2001 a horrible year for music (it was actually the best since 1997), but, in the USA in particular, none of the best stuff dominated.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 23 February 2009 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

the blueprint is the acknowledged canon favourite, and justifiably so, but the great depression really does go toe-to-toe with it. 'who we be'! 'trina moe'! (repeat for the entire track listing)

lex pretend, Monday, 23 February 2009 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

Aaliyah, no question.

nonightsweats, Monday, 23 February 2009 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Jay-Z, then Garth. (Both Now albums look pretty good, though.)

xhuxk, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

(Both Now albums with numbers, I mean. Not so sure about Maxwell.)

xhuxk, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:15 (seventeen years ago)

blueprint, aaliyah, take off your pants and jacket

suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

lol I remember buying the Destiny's Child Survivor bootleg cd and wearing that shit OUT - "Nasty Girl," "Apple Pie A La Mode," "Emotions"... plus I knew like all the dance steps from the "Survior" video and would always LOL @ Michelle's part (she tries so hard but Beyonce keeps outdoing her), but like if I were to revisit that album now it's really not that good... at least it hasn't held up like Writings On The Wall anyway (though Destiny Fulfilled prob my fave album of theirs).

I also bought the Britney bootleg. Damn good album!

But I actually had the real CD of Aaliyah so that says something, lots of cool memories to that album. So yeah that gets my vote.

kiss on the pearl (The Brainwasher), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:25 (seventeen years ago)

The actual best music here is obviously on 1, but it seems a bit of a cheat so I voted for Toxicity.

chap, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

the beatles suck

kiss on the pearl (The Brainwasher), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:39 (seventeen years ago)

#1 challop of all time

suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

I don't get them, I tried really but no

kiss on the pearl (The Brainwasher), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:41 (seventeen years ago)

I know you're supposed to like them but really, no

christ you're inane

xp

lex pretend, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

At the time I would've said Toxicity, but in retrospect, I gotta go with the much more fun and entertaining Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

Mordy, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

i'm personally shocked anyone dislikes the beatles--agreed it is #1 challop for all times

Mr. Que, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

I don't dislike them I just don't care about them

kiss on the pearl (The Brainwasher), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

What's weirder than people disliking the Beatles is people admitting they dislike the Beatles. Like, that is not something to be proud of! It's almost like going around saying that you think Shakespeare is overrated.

Mordy, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

haha that's totally different--i think both Shakespeare (and the Beatles) are overrated

Mr. Que, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:49 (seventeen years ago)

but i dig em both

Mr. Que, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:49 (seventeen years ago)

i object more to it being seen as a "challop". see, i can't comprehend how anyone could dislike aaliyah/britney/dmx/destiny's child, much more so than the beatles, but i doubt anyone coming in here saying they couldn't get into those acts would be told off for challoping

yeah exactly lex, there's this sort of Beatles hegemony when it comes to all things music that is really fucking annoying. I mean... Shakespeare? Seriously?

btw i think you're both bros but don't be so dense as to appear mystified by the beatles' status.

k3vin k., Monday, 23 February 2009 03:55 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't Tolstoy dislike Shakespeare? I recall him dissing King Lear somewhere.

moley, Monday, 23 February 2009 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

the beatles suck

re challoping, i think "brtiney sucks" is as much of a challop as "britney sucks" - brainwasher's follow up of "i tried, but no" is much more reasonable

suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

"beatles suck"*

suggban stevens (J0rdan S.), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:57 (seventeen years ago)

He preferred Victor Hugo!

The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 23 February 2009 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

Aaliyah and The Bluepring are two of my favorite albums ever, but I'm probably more likely to listen to the former atm.

Love a lot of these, but Aaliyah, easy. Hate most songs on 1.

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Monday, 23 February 2009 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

The Beatles are not overrated, but Elvis is. :)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 23 February 2009 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

ffs can we just get over the fact that some people like The Beatles and some people do not

Since I didn't vote for any albums that I haven't heard in their entirety, I voted for Tool.
