"The First Time..." woulda been my second choice.

The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:26 (seventeen years ago)

I might vote for Don't Worry... For being pretty much the only thing here without monumental self-importance.

Can't believe their pick of the Beatles catalogue is the pretty but throwaway Michelle.

chap, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

Went for "Killing Me Softly" but maybe should have gone for "Kiss From a Rose" or "What a Fool Believes".

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 28 February 2009 15:00 (seventeen years ago)

The record of the year grammy is given to the song performer instead of the songwriter, and on the whole the songs that won it are a little better. But overall, fuck a Grammy.

urban-suburban hip-hop settings (hmmmm), Saturday, 28 February 2009 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

moon river is great. I went for streets of philadelphia.

Dan S, Saturday, 28 February 2009 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 1 March 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I missed this. Should have voted for "Michelle", which is one of my all-time favourite Beatles moments. A fantastic song, and overplayed usually is overplayed for a reason.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 1 March 2009 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

and overplayed usually is overplayed for a reason

Which explains the preponderance of dance and hip-hop in the last 30 years.

Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Sunday, 1 March 2009 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

Which explains the preponderance of dance and hip-hop in the last 30 years.

Nope. Because very few of those numbers have lasted long enough to really become overplayed. I mean overplay over time, not overplay right now. If a 50 year old song is still being played a lot on the radio 50 years on, then that song is obviously a classic, objectively speaking.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 1 March 2009 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

Run Rabbit Run is most definitely a classic.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 1 March 2009 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

Coldplay should cover it, would be the best thing they ever made.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 1 March 2009 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

B/W How Much Is That Doggy In The Window (Gwyneth Paltrow mix)
