for the purposes of this scienterrific survey, dancing will be defined as on your feet and moving your body, hopefully in time with some music that's on.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For an extended period of time, as in the duration of the song? And in a group context?

Daver, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"I Can't Go For That" by Hall & Oates, with dramatic hand gestures in sync with the syncopated chorus. it seemed that a stiff breeze was whipping my hair back through the entire song. but that was only when i closed my eyes.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was just dancing in the kitchen to a hip hop song on the radio... i think it was krs-1! (it heavily sampled a chinese song... anyone know?)

minna, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave, he means in a club at 8 PM with at least 30 people of which one third must be at least over 25 years old and have GREAT TASTE.

Sugababes - Freak Like Me

cuba libre (nathalie), Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no! you have caught me. i went to a dodgy indie club on saturday (oi ricky t! shut it!), the last record i danced to was either stereolab's ping pong, fischerspooners' emerge or new orders temptation. if you'd asked this last week it might have been wayne smiths' under mi sleng teng, sister nancys bom bom or aphex twins polynomial-c

gareth, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One of my local's had an 80's night & we got up to 'Making Your Mind Up'.Great fun

Paul R, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was dancing to "Addictive" in the car yesterday.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I bopped a few days ago to "Kebabträume" by DAF.

Colin Meeder, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

car dancing!! even though you weren't technically on your feet Dan i WILL allow it.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(By the strict definition, my answer would be "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" by Public Enemy. I'm glad that car-dancing is not being discriminated against, though.)

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if there is a correlation between "Addictive" radioplay and daily spikes in traffic accidents. I wouldn't be surprised. I'm assuming you kept both hands on the wheel Dan.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i saw some excellent car dancing as i was waiting for a tram today - there were two guys waiting at a stoplight and they were doing synchronised hand movements to some 70s ultra-lite am radio rock!

minna, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

berlin - lou reed

in my head

Queen G of the lamenting anal labias, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grove is in the heart , by delight, yes i know it's chessy, but I still love it!

Nalini, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if there is a correlation between "Addictive" radioplay and daily spikes in traffic accidents. I wouldn't be surprised. I'm assuming you kept both hands on the wheel Dan. Didn't have to; I was in the passenger seat. *snap*

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dan was making like the girl in the hats in the mitsu ads...

gareth, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can't remember, but the Flying DeWaele Bros. were at the decks at the time

Jeff W, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i did a little shimmy in my living room when i popped in this months cmj and heard the new costello single.

dyson, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't have to; I was in the passenger seat.

Scrub. But you ride and you ride.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"High Flying Adored" from the Disco Evita record. It sounds like the Spinners!

Arthur, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this is sad

it was either Vincent Come On Down by Brainiac
or it was Peaches by The Stranglers.

Brock K., Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ugghhh .... "Stallkicker," by Oxbow, off of their new album 'An Evil Heat.' And the previous track, "S Bar X," featuring Jarboe. This must be a very liberal interpretation of 'dance,' of course ..

Dare, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Gettin' Hot in HERRRE (of course)

Keiko, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARKane's A Love From Outer Space

Daniel, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Daydreamer by Menswear. And tonight, I shall do so yet again.

Mr Swygart, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the A*Teens inforn t of the mirror, until I found out that I had already OPENED the curtains of my bedroom in the early morning. After that I was forced to comtemplate my sins with Pergolesi's Stabat Mater accompanied by a boy soprano.

erik from holland, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Except I won't because the club is closed due to only four people buying tickets. Clevv-eh.

Mr Swygart, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night I danced to a bit of a Jeff Mills mix when i got back home. I was a bit drunk. Today I marched up and down my room to PIL's "Chant". I was a bit bored.

Michael Bourke, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, wait! I was cleaning the bathroom yesterday and dancing to The Rocking Horse Winner (which actually lead me to glance in the L section of my local Borders for any super-discounted copies of _Sister_ and _Wholesale Meats & Fish_). Unfortunately, the bastard Rocking Horse Winner decided to NOT put the song titles on their fancy Digipak. The album is _Horizon_, and my booty was shaking to tracks #1 and 2.

Now, to dance the rest of my room clean! YOU BETTER WORK.

Daver, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night, I danced in front of a dusty jukebox at an El Paso roadhouse to seduce the man who had made me a widow - a bloated, corrupt, eternally sweat-glazed sheriff named Roy Cootus. While slowly undulating my lithe figure, I ran an ice cube across my forehead and then delicately placed it between his bulbous lips. As I leaned toward him, my crimson lips pursed, I stuck a stiletto into his belly and twisted it around. After he collapsed to the floor, twitching and cursing, I spat into his face, having eaten a Snickers bar moments before. The song on the jukebox was "Strange" by Patsy Cline.

Kate Spiren, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the first song off the first Gilberto Gil CD. I play it when I am severely happy.

tyler, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Whatever that horrible C+C Music Factory song is called. They were playing it over the P.A. at my bike race Sunday. I took my short off and did the whole muscle flexing Freedom Williams routine. Seeing as how I'm a scrawny 140 bike racer and I was standing on the sidewalk, I'm sure people were pretty frightened.

Dave Beckhouse, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

High Flying Adored" from the Disco Evita record. It sounds like the Spinners!

i always swore it was "I'm Frying a Goat"

minna, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

minna you just made my day, thank you!

Arthur, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last song I recall was Home For A Rest by Spirit Of The West but I had a fair bit to drink that night.

Mr Noodles, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Twas Pressure Drop, at a reggae night in a fairly empty bar, but all 15 or so patrons danced and so did the lass serving beer, does that count?

Andrew, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Woah hold on Gareth you weren't at Strange Fruit were you?!

I know I certainly danced to Ca Plane Pour Moi there at any rate. And I danced to the Pixies this morning but only because my cd player is poop and wouldn't let me play the Monkees.

Sarah, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to say that the image of Dom (or what I imagine Dom to look like) lurching along to Oxbow puts a little kick in my step.

Daver, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think "Kiss" by Prince. Not much of a dancer really, though I must say that the pot and the hot chix were encouraging.

dleone, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom, Dare - same person, whatever.

Yesterday, I was sweating to the dustbunnies w/ the help of Consonant and Jimmy Eat World. As soon as the power ballad on the JEW disc kicked in, I knew I was done for the evening.

Wow, so there are, like, these places where people get together and DANCE? That's so interesting...

Daver, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Woah hold on Gareth you weren't at Strange Fruit were you?!

no, um, after skool klub. oh the shame

gareth, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Daver, ethan - same person, whatever.

Yeah, it gets confusing.

dleone, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

like the girl in the hats in the mitsu ads I love that girl.

Chris, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...
revive. because i really can't even remember the last time i danced let alone what the song was.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

"Intergalactic," Saturday night, at a party which was otherwise horrible

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

"Slow Train Coming" by Journey South, at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, while trying to avoid the ever-increasing backwards thrust of Journey South's mam's Big Clapping in the space next to me. Careful missus, I'm wearing glasses! (I didn't like to say anything, though. She looked so proud.)

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

What was the last song played at Poptimism? That one.

you win again, gravity! (tissp), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

In public, the Komatrohn tune spun at Club Poptimism last week.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

The last song my partner danced to - and indeed the only song he has danced to all year - was La Monte Young's "Drift Study 31 I 69 12:17:30 - 12:49:58 PM NYC". OK, so it's just two sustained electronic tones - but if you jig around the room in rhythm, then the rhythm will replicate itself in the buzz in your eardrums - as he discovered, with no small measure of delight.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

cassie, 'me & u', at the dragon bar on saturday

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

Apocalypse '07: Rodney Strikes Back (R. J. Greene), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

In public (sort of), dancing to Sonora Poncena's "Yambeque" (which happens to be a great song) in salsa dance class Monday night. Otherwise, I am always taking little dance breaks at home and can't really remember.

R.J., what type of dance do you teach?

R_S (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Nowhere in the original question does it state publicity as a condition of your answers! R_S, that means your answer and Marcello's need work

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

I know it doesn't.

What I dance to in private is none of yer flipping business.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

xxpost

Tap & (in that case) hiphop.

Apocalypse '07: Rodney Strikes Back (R. J. Greene), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

i find it shocking that i haven't danced even in private since saturday! this is a dreadful state of affairs. (excuses: sunday i was broken, and have been ill and confined to my deathbed since monday.)

i love the video for 'long way 2 go', rodney! cassie rejecting losers on myspace!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

*improbable picture of jeremy clarkson standing over lex with sledgehammer springs to mind*

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Haven't seen the video. I may need to some U-toobing.

Apocalypse '07: Rodney Strikes Back (R. J. Greene), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

scnnr drkly (scnnr drkly), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Some Drum and Bass last Thursday. Can't remember what.

Doctor Jaggernathy (noodle vague), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Depeche Mode - The Sinner In Me (Villalobos remix)
last night

jelkino (jergins), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

I think it was actually "Everyday is Like Sunday."

Before that it was much of "Sinatra Sings the Select Rodgers & Hart," with no shoes on, with my wife, in the living room.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

Something from Fuzzy Felt Folk, probably The Teddy Bears' Picnic.
