Pac Maninmal Collective?

Is that a Pac-Man (or Ms. Pac-Man) sound-effect sample at the start of In the Flowers (the first song on Merriweather)? It seems to be the sound you hear after (Ms.) Pac-Man eats a Power Pill... anyone agree?

And perhaps this is a reference to Stephen Colbert's "put your ear to a Pac-Man machine" joke?

Can someone explain all the pictures? I'm new to this site so if I broke some sort of rule let me know so I won't do it again :)

If you're new, you should start a thread called something like "greetings, all" outlining your age, circumstances, musical likes and dislikes &c. Be as effusive as you can! It's the start of a grand old journey.

Thanks Reflex. Is my lack of a proper introduction actually the reason why this post is getting spammed with pictures that seem to be counting upwards? And what is that symbolizing?

tipover pinecone, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

It is possibly symbolising the assumption of members, the rapidly-growing gaggle we cultivate here. Revel in the throng.

And yeah, you should write an introduction ASAP. Established posters here tend to shower unknown newbies with gifs.

louis did u know i sometimes go :D:D:D:D:D when im trying to capture a sense of retardedly enthusiastic naivete. you did that in your lead-off post but i don't know if it really translates tho.

Yeah, but the OG :D:D:D:D was done as a (spectacularly misjudged) bit of self-deprecating "newbie humour". Which kinda made it even worse!

Hope yer taking notes, pinecone

Reflex Gaffe (country matters), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

yeah basically don't be like anyone on this thread

Cool, thanks all... my name is Jeremiah, j'ai 32 ans. I actually used to post here under the name Jeremiah a couple years ago but I got distracted for a bit and I had some PW issues, so I'm sort of a born-again noob. I'm really into all sorts of rock music but my favorites would have to be GBV, Wire, The Kinks, The Wrens, The Weakerthans, Jay Reatard, The Brother Kite, and lots of lesser-known stuff that floats into and out of my rotation..

Happy to be back on this message board!!! :)

Oh and I live in Bklyn NYC!! Where Animal Collective are from!!! Which will hopefully serve as a segue back to my original question...heheheh

Anyone have a legit opinion on this? Is it Pac-Man?

tipover pinecone, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 16:15 (seventeen years ago)

no i know! i also kind of picture a clown shrugging really fast and going ah? ah? ah? after a magic trick flops xposts

little bobby jingles (rent), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard this because every time Animal Collective comes up, people have this full-on Strokes-ish "OMG LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV" reaction to them that seems wholly at odds with the descriptions written about their music, making me very wary. Sorry.

Maybe someone else who's heard this can weigh in.

I just imagine Louis as perpetually on stage with a crook around his neck dragging him toward the curtain, going "c'mon, that was funny, is this thing on?, FUCK ALL OF YOU BASTARDS, hey c'mon guys, that was funny, I WILL KILL YOUR PETS, you've been a great audience, is this thing on?"

Dan, I'd personally say you are very right to be wary, but others shall disagree.

lol I WILL KILL YOUR PETS

Hello Pinecone. I don't believe that the sound you're referring to is a Pac-Man sound. I think it's just an arpeggiated keyboard note. The Pac-Man sound - as it exists in my addled memory, anyway - sort of stutters up a few octaves. This sounds like a note or two with an effect on it.

I'm not sure what the Stephen Colbert thing is that you referenced.

Please don't let the assorted jaded posters on the board dissuade you from continuing to post. Welcome back.

listened to the pac man pill-eating noise a few times, and then the first coulple seconds of "in the flowers". it does kinda sound like a distorted version. can't really tell

They don’t understand. And I eat a lot of matzo brie. (contenderizer), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

Cool, just sounded a bit like it but you're probably right
