wahhh

deej da 5'9 (deej), Friday, 27 February 2009 15:52 (seventeen years ago)

Well, not EVERYTHING, but there's a big, big bias.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

dude dont you start threads discussing "MUSIC" that end up being 99% indie rock

deej da 5'9 (deej), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

'bias' -- yes, thats sort of what 'taste' is

deej da 5'9 (deej), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

JOSE is kinda weak imo, at least compared to Loyalty or Me Myself & I

Mr. Debonair Touch Himself (some dude), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

I voted 02, my favorite singles year of the decade. 01 and 04 and 07 right behind it.

Matos W.K., Friday, 27 February 2009 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

This entire decade has been pretty impressive, musically speaking. I'm gonna have to go with '01 since that was the year my electro addiction reached new heights.

tea cake, Friday, 27 February 2009 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

2005 might be either the worst or the best depending where you look at.

Moka, Friday, 27 February 2009 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

Either way I'm voting 2005, mainly because that was the year that I finally got a decent internet connection prompting me to finally get to hear a whole lot of great releases I hadnt had any chance of listening before.

Also Books' Lost & safe & Paavoharju's Yha Hammara got released that year and they're amongst my favorite releases fo the decade.

Moka, Friday, 27 February 2009 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

toss up between '01 and '04. '01 helped to kick start the decade for me, with the rise of electro and 2manydjs bridging the genre gaps between dance and rock, also daft punk and Warp Records last gasp before going rubbish with great albums by Aphex, Autechre, Plaid etc.

the next grozart, Friday, 27 February 2009 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

'04 on the other hand had a lot of great indie and noise records.

the next grozart, Friday, 27 February 2009 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

03 > 01 > 06 > 04 > 08 > 05 > 00 > 07 > 02

2003 was the year where every other song on the radio was mind-bendingly good, so that is my pick.

The Reverend (rev), Friday, 27 February 2009 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

either 03 or 04 for me...I can't quite decide...just before I fell off the face...

i am an evil halfperson (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 27 February 2009 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

How can you guys even remember what came out every year?

Alex in SF, Friday, 27 February 2009 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

03 but it's not really my decade

special guest stars mark bronson, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

How can you guys even remember what came out every year?

^^^
THIS.

I have no fucking idea about any of this except maybe like, liking '05 because it was a good year for dubstep.

How can you guys even remember what came out every year?

mp3 tags dude

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:25 (seventeen years ago)

They're all different years.

Wax Cat, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

Unless everything you own is in iTunes, I don't see how that helps.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

Years are cool.

Wax Cat, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:32 (seventeen years ago)

I'm just basing it on memories. Of course its unscientific as fuck. Btw rev how can u have 03 and 01 first and 02 last? Makes no damn sense

deej da 5'9 (deej), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:12 (seventeen years ago)

because not much good stuff came out that year? seems simple enough

Joe Biddden (The Reverend), Saturday, 28 February 2009 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

2001 was mindblowingly good, 2002 slightly less so, 2003 somewhere in between. The rest was down. WAY down.

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 28 February 2009 02:04 (seventeen years ago)

Years are cool.

― Wax Cat, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:32 (1 hour ago)

Wax Cat OTM

Moka, Saturday, 28 February 2009 02:10 (seventeen years ago)

As mentioned upthread, 2007 was especially good for both radio pop and indie/underground releases, and maybe some other genres mentioned but I'd have to read what came out to remember. 2001 is filled with a lot of albums that already seem canonized. 2003 was my HS "classic rock year" and I didn't follow the scene. The following year I started following new music and while I remember plenty of memorable music from 2004 I doubt it was a reflection on the year being terrific as it was my own musical gluttony.

That's a very tricky variable in a thread like this. Some years you listened to everything and can give an insightful assessment while in others you let others listen to everything and you were on that second tier of people who just heard "the best" as filtered by others. What was filtered for you determines what you thought of the year. For instance I thought 2006 was pretty mundane, but was that just me?

Cunga, Saturday, 28 February 2009 06:40 (seventeen years ago)

ugh, 2007 was terrible for pop radio imo. Only reason it wasn't last in my list was cause it had some decent albums.

Joe Biddden (The Reverend), Saturday, 28 February 2009 06:53 (seventeen years ago)

Out of those I would say 2005, although 2005 had a slightly larger number of perfect albums. 2005 had the best Top 3 whereas 2002 had the best Top 20, if you know what I mean.

It is between those two anyway, although I do have the impression that 2009 might become a contender.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 28 February 2009 13:05 (seventeen years ago)

I went for 2002, I mean.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 28 February 2009 13:05 (seventeen years ago)

My view of '03 is really skewed; except for '06, I heard less music that year than any other this decade, mostly because I was moving cross-country and started a job (which was music related, but adjusting to things took a while). I should probably revisit it some.
