i've never started a poll so a 50+ poll seems a good place to start.
though is it...
i've just been informed The maximum number of poll items is: 50...! and our man has 54 albums.. so i guess we'll have to go with a studio albums and poll the live-albums poll..
i wonder if he's been in a studio though.

gonna be boring and go with blue corpse.. first one i heard and still the one that hits the spot best

w/ sax (electricsound), Sunday, 1 March 2009 10:51 (sixteen years ago)

and poll the live-albums poll..

seperately.. of course.

as for my vote.
Ready for the House & Six and Six are both great, very intimate like he's truly stuck in the MUD. Chair Beside a Window has a lot of variation and might get my vote. (Also fine: Living in a Moon so Blue)
Your Turn to Fall is my geheimtip though it's been a very long time since i listened to it.

obviously: 0750-0758 minus 0752. Blue Corpse and You Walk Alone!

one of his best tracks is New Town, one i return to when i need a little shot of Jandek, not sure about the rest of the album though.

I only know about four of these albums really well. Was veering between Ready for the House and Chair Beside a Window, but I think the latter edges it out.

House

Mark, Sunday, 1 March 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

Anyone here heard all 50?

I am using your worlds, Sunday, 1 March 2009 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

Not I.

Out of what I've heard, which is only like 6 or 7, Ready for the house. Though I do also really like the newest one and it has one of my favourite covers:

Anyone here heard all 50?

i heard all of the studio albums except for the Myth of Blue Icicles. live-albums tend to dissapoint me so far, so have only heard a couple. Jandek should be solo, with the occasional help from friends (?) (Which happened only in the first period)

Wha??? Modern Dances has long been my fave. What don't you like about it? It brings the chuckles which humanizes the man a bit. But it also brings the scares (though not too relentlessly as on Six and Six or one of the spoken word ones). It's (even) more varied than Chair Beside a Window. And it features guests.

I was true to my word and voted the 1st acapella record, that thing really gets to me.

sleeve, Sunday, 1 March 2009 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

The acapalla records are amazing. I find it hard to differentiate them in my mind, though.
"I decided to live for man instead of God."
I wonder how much post-production was involved on those records. A man could get obsessed changing the order of words, phrases, stanzas. (I love these records btw.)

I need to do a few listenings before I vote, but I'm initially drawn to: You Walk Alone, Lost Cause, Foreign Keys... all relatively easy Jandek records, if there is such a thing. Probably because they're the easiest records to play for other people, I end up listening to them most often.

I have a soft spot for Six & Six and Staring At The Cellophane, of his early records; they were some of the first I heard. Stuff like "Point Judith" is almost unbearable grim.

hmm. (i actually have a moderndances@...com e-mail address. i'll have another listen, but when i had a Jandek-album project for my weblog Modern Dances really dissapointed me :) (i thought the acoustic stuff was so-so, and the noisy rocking tracks were funny but ugly)

Ludo, Monday, 2 March 2009 09:24 (sixteen years ago)

the reason I go for the 1st acapella is because it has the longest tracks. that first one is almost half an hour and he just sounds so agonized. nothing else like it, ever (of course, you could say that about a lot of his records).

the one with "Governor Rhodes" is good too. I tend to remember standout tracks of his as opposed to whole albums. Six For Six has a long one on it that I really like as well.

sleeve, Monday, 2 March 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

Graven Image.

I like/love a lot of his stuff, but Graven Image is just a stunning album for me - lyrically, guitar-wise, you name it. Nine-Thirty is awfully high on the list too. (Neither of these seem to get a lot of props in the Jandekian Canon...)

zero of the signified, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

Graven Image > love the opening 4

can't remember much of Nine-Thirty.

Ludo, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:25 (sixteen years ago)

It's great, give it a re-listen. It gets lost in the shuffle cuz it's slightly before the "peak period" as far as most jandekkies are concerned.

ian, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

Something about Jandek, I can just look at a least of album/song titles and album covers and be intrigued. In a way that is more enjoyable than listening to the records.

Mark, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

listen harder

ian, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)

Nine Thirty is a good one, "Death Dream" is exceptional and unusual.

sleeve, Monday, 2 March 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

I like "The Living End" but that is maybe connected to it being the first one I got. I saw it for sale in a shop in Montreal - I'd never seen Jandek CDs in a store before so I had to pick it up.

lol i used my second (cookie expired) vote for "Put My Dream On This Planet."

I'll listen to it when I go to sleep tonight. Fingers crossed, no nightmares.

ian, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 03:15 (sixteen years ago)

lol :)

is Put My Dream the one with Black Cats in the Caribbean or whatever, that's my favourite spoken word one.
