so does M5, it's between the 1st two for me.

Q: So what's "The Chiselers" about, then?
MES: fuckin' chiselers!

Quite a difficult one this. Contenders for me are
Grudgeful - wonderful electro-lunacy, great summer track (for a normally wintry group) and Smith pronouncing difference as diFORence. It's the B-sides that do it though, strange read outs ('Do not leave your hotel, whenever you leave your hotel, please leave your room'), great cover of an old song - the Re-Mixer - and two superb album tracks, all on excellent sounding vinyl.
Behind the Counter - War is a mind-scouring masterpiece - 'People get what they deserve' uttered with withering contempt, the highlight. Behind the Counter itself has those great icy keyboards, M5 is great and there's that appealing instrumental version of City Dweller.
F'Oldin Money is great as well - unhinged rockabilly, a really high pitched, fucked around with Perfect Day (better than the album version - apparently Smith wanted it on there but the group vetoed it) and the excellent REAL life of Crying Marshall, again supposed to be on the album, but something happened in the pressing of it (according to Smith). Top lines including 'If you're dead, he said, so am I'.
But I think the winner has to be the Christmas EP. Four brilliant songs, Protein Protection Christmas is very sour and fun and festive, Mod Mock Goth an incessant gem, Girl in Shop funky and incomprehensible, and the best version of Recovery Kit.

the live "Ol Gang" cut on the #2 cd version of Masquerade is essential for those you who might love guitar rock

Rude All the Time is pretty dreadful. I Wake Up in the City is tip top though. And yes, that Ol' Gang rocks.

i really don't know a lot of these, but "wake up in the city" and the "f-oldin money" are as good as you could ask for.

"Rude all the time" (not to be confused with the CD single, which is not the same track) is a 7" only, to subscribers only, and now £100 worth of rareness.
This was going to be a cd single also, but MarkE removed the title track, and replaced it w/ the song about taxis.

Let's be honest, "Glam Racket" is the best song there. Even better than "M5".
