it would be awesome if various music people on this board would each claim one of these song titles, then write and record a song with that title, then put a link to it on this board. the songs don't have to sound like U2 or have anything to do with U2 at all. the u2 album comes out march 3, if we could get this all done before then, it would be awesome. anyone interested?

was listening to it again this morning and was struck by how thematically cohesive it is - internet age referendum / reflection on fame, pop music, social justice, stunna shades. maybe that's what makes it seem more aurally cohesive, the riffing on topic?

also wanna give a shoutout to "stand up comedy", the chewy off-center center of our tootsie roll pop clusterfuck

hey guys,
sorry I didn't answer last week, especially about the 320kb versions, but I was on holidays without an internet access (yeah, that still exists in 2009...).
So I just got to discover our album a couple days ago and I love it !
I agree with everything that's been said, especially how surprisingly cohesive it is.
So far, my favorite track might be "stand up comedy" but the whole thing is great (also the kanye/autotune part on "magnificent" kills me everytime).
It's an honour to be a part of this !
I haven't listened to the U2 one yet (and wonder if I will) but there's no way it can be as great as this !

It's a very individual situation.

Oasis are gorn, all the other bands that might have qualified for this kind of 'tribute' are not exactly superpremier league anymore (Stones, REM) and no-one else 'winds up' the select few like U2.

Or Coldplay.

There's a partial and totally speculative tracklisting here, but it's not enough to go on. Also half of the tracks they list are out-takes from "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", so probably won't be on "Songs of Ascent" anyway. The only confirmed song is "Every Breaking Wave".
