Nomination Thread for a Poll I am going to do: The Most Underrated MC of All Time

Hey dudes, ringtone goon squad, lurkers etc:

I want to do a poll for the most underrated MC of all time.

There's no "rules" per se, but one thing I would like to avoid is jokey shit like nominating Soulja Boy....also...most big "backpacker" dudes could be said to be underrated sales wise, but at the same time I don't really think a poll like this is the place to see, say, like Brother Ali or Edan get a critical BJ again.

The reason I thought of this thread was because I am listening to the first Above the Law record right now...and Cold 187um is sort of the classic example of an underrated dude that made me think of this...

so anyway my 2 nominees right off:

1) Cold 187um

2) **kind of thinking of MC Ren, even though at first it seems dumb to have a dude in like the most legendary group ever but honestly it's like he's almost written out of the history sometimes....but if peeps disagree I could see leaving him off...

well, are they underrated by other backpackers?? i guess that's what i meant.

like here's a better way to say it. MF Doom is "underrated" as compared to like Jay-Z or TI or something, but he's way overrated in that backpacker world, nah mean?

Okay, then. A personal fave of mine is Azeem, and even other dudes who like backpacker dudes don't seem to know who he is.

this is genuinely hard, i dunno whether to nominate semi-famous guys with actual fanbases or random local cats i've seen do amazing freestyles that none of y'all have ever heard of or guys who are underrated in the larger sense but rated highly on this board (like say young dro or something)

You don't hear much mention of The D.O.C. these days. And while Slick Rick gets a lot of credit for the smooth, mellow gangsta drawl style, I think Too Short was at least his match. Jeru the Damaja is definitely rated, but never at the top of the class. Regarding the backpacker argument, I'll go with Lyrics Born there.

I think this depends as to what definition of "underrated" we're going with here... Ace is my favourite MC of all time, but he is kinda hip-hop canon, just not... top table at the party.

i never copped b.p. & dont remember dude on clientele so i guess hes underrated w/ me

his verse on we made it is one of the most memorable on the album for me...about crying on his roof after his friend's funeral
