A list thread for now, but may become a poll. I just want to have a list as complete as possible at first.
I know about the following:
Willie Nelson: StardustTaco: After EightLinda Ronstadt: What's NewSinead O'Connor: Am I Not Your GirlNatalie Cole: Unforgettable....With LoveBryan Ferry: As Time Goes ByRobbie Williams: Swing When You're Winning
Also, keeping acts such as Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Buble out of here, as they have made themselves careers specializing in this kind of music, and not just visiting it for an album or two. Rod Stewart: The Great American Songbook

Linda Ronstadt did 2 more after "What's New." Carly Simon did 2 or 3. Can't be bothered to AMG them for titles though.
And didn't Rod Stewart crank out 3 sequels while he was milking it?

Also 7 out of 11 songs on Rickie Lee's It's Like This, unless "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" counts as the Great American Songbook.

Nilsson: A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night
Also, Rickie Lee's Pop Pop has covers of Jimi Hendrix & the Jefferson Airplane, so it's not entirely what the OP calls for.

UB40s Red Red Wine

"Songs From The Last Century" has a bit too many rock era tracks on it to really fit in here.
I know a lot of those have had sequels, even numerous sequels, but I feel like the first one is the statement in most cases, so I guess at least in a poll, only the first one will be included.

In the case of UB40, "Red Red Wine" is just a song. The album was called "The Labour Of Love", and it might as well have been called "The Great Jamaican Songbook". But not the American, no. Not a single Tin Pan Alley song in there :)

Diana Ross's "Blue"
Marianne Faithfull's "Strange Weather" sort of fits in here.
The Carly Simon albums are "Torch" and "Film Noir" (although both had a couple of contemporary tracks on them).

Ringo Starr: Sentimental Journey

Both Toni Tennille and Bette Midler have churned out these kinds of albums, although you could argue that the notion of being part of the "rock era" was so distant in their career rear view mirrors by that time that these don't count.

Harpers Bizarre, "As Time Goes By"
Some examples of this in the disco era as well; see Tuxedo Junction's "Take the A Train" for example.
What about retro acts such as the Manhattan Transfer? I suppose those are discoutned in the same way that Buble et al are given the boot.

Oh Geir I thought Red Red Wine was by Neil Sedaka but I've just looked it up and it's by Neil Diamond. Sorry about that.

does Willie's Somewhere Over the Rainbow fit this bill? (i think it was probably considered a disappointment, following Stardust just a couple of years later.)

Was Bobby Darin the first "rocker" to do this with That's All?

Somewhat, yes, but if I make a poll out of this, I will keep to one (the first) per artist.
