"The Girl and The Robot" with Robyn is flat out amazing.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 March 2009 04:08 (sixteen years ago)

i'm enjoying it a lot

rentboy, Sunday, 8 March 2009 05:03 (sixteen years ago)

Clear favorite so far = "Tricky Tricky" with Karin Dreijer-Andersson. Hard to really formulate coherent thoughts on this, though. There's so much going on, kind of like the first 2 or 3 times I heard Kish Kash.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 March 2009 06:16 (sixteen years ago)

Fever Ray is supporting Royksopp in London on April 11th, by the way.

StanM, Sunday, 8 March 2009 09:28 (sixteen years ago)

i need to be at that i think

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 12:47 (sixteen years ago)

Haven't heard anything but "Happy Up Here" yet, which sounds a lot like "Eple". But I am sure the album will be good, like the first two.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 8 March 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i need more time 2 process this

johnny crunch, Sunday, 8 March 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know if it'd call it "going pop" but i dig it. was psyched to hear robyn. am always psyched to hear robyn.

so much better than the last album

fauxmarc, Sunday, 8 March 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

horrible, horrible artwork.

djh, Sunday, 8 March 2009 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

I've only heard these bits from the press kit interview thingy (there's a less poppy "Senior" album coming later this year, if that's not a joke) :

StanM, Sunday, 8 March 2009 17:36 (sixteen years ago)

"this must be it"

cutty, Sunday, 8 March 2009 18:21 (sixteen years ago)

I hate to piss on everyone's bonfire but this is actually pretty dull. It seems to suffer from the same problems as the others, ie being bland as hell and two or three years behind the times.

The tracks with Karin on them are okay but the whole sound of it just made me want to put Silent Shout on. They're just not very good songwriters or producers.

Hreidarsson The Storm (Matt DC), Sunday, 8 March 2009 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

They're just not very good songwriters or producers.

this is insanely wrong

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 19:47 (sixteen years ago)

i agree the artwork is kinda bad tho. it's either julian house jumping the shark (if he didn't already with the last Oasis album) or a pretty bad imitation of that style.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

you didn't piss on anyone's bonfire

cutty, Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

you tried to and burnt yo dick

cutty, Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:06 (sixteen years ago)

a post like that reeks of such self-importance. say you don't like something about a record, fine.

coming in like what you're saying is going to make us appreciate the music any less is laughable.

cutty, Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

that is harsh. i always think Matt doesn't really like "downtempo" electronic/ambient stuff, at least not when it's on the poppier side but could be wrong there.

funny to read the Junior Boys album thread tho because they always get intellectualised in a way Royksopp never would (because the latter may be seen as 'too obvious' tho there's nothing wrong with being consciously more overt and vibrant. still don't buy the blandness criticism either).

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)

also think dismissing them as not good songwriters is missing the point, much like if you were to say this about Air. production-wise i don't think there's much between the two either.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)

i am a harsh mistress

cutty, Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

To be honest, I just wanted to write the phrase 'piss on your bonfire' as it had been in my head all morning. I didn't actually think it would affect anyone's enjoyment of the record. But yes, feel free to carry on burning my penis if you so wish.

i always think Matt doesn't really like "downtempo" electronic/ambient stuff, at least not when it's on the poppier side but could be wrong there.

I dunno - I love Aeroplane so much it surprises me somewhat that I don't like this album more. Actually, I keep thinking of Stirmonster's criticism of Aeroplane has having this hugely offputting sheen on the production and while I disagree with him there, that's what I always think about Royksopp.

For the record I think Air are tremendous songwriters, and all of this stuff is about melody above all. I wanted to love The Girl And The Robot but the actual song sounds a bit laboured to me.

Hreidarsson The Storm (Matt DC), Sunday, 8 March 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

just heard it and i think it's great. probably could've come out 3 years ago but who gives a shit about that.

this is the problem I have with the Fever Ray album

Terius (The Reverend), Sunday, 8 March 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

got me a ticket for the RFH show. Rex The Dog also playing on the night.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 8 March 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Fever Ray is supporting Royksopp in London on April 11th, by the way.

That really should've been the other way around. 'Junior' sounds like a snoozer to me.

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 9 March 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

this LP sounds as good as The Understanding to me - which is fine. Half the tracks I thought were going to be kinda meh but after about 2 minutes I found myself loving them. Lykkke Li track is OK/her vocals end up just on the right side of irritating - but i prefer all the other guest vocalist tracks (maybe even You Don't Have A Clue the most).

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 00:27 (sixteen years ago)

So, any reason why Röyksopp and Kleerup use the exact same guest singers, more or less? :)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 9 March 2009 00:29 (sixteen years ago)

shoulda got Maggie Berger in too

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

And Annie from Norway too. The world needs another "Heartbeat".

ana, Monday, 9 March 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

plus Bertine, Stina...argh

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

Might as well aim a bit higher and get Kylie in there :)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 9 March 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

Royksopp ft. Marit Larsen 'Burn Yo Dick Off (Pissing On Bonfires)'

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)

Royksopp ft. Marit Larsen 'Burn Yo Dick Off (Pissing On Bonfires)'

ILM's #1 single in the 2009 poll!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 March 2009 01:09 (sixteen years ago)

What I wrote on the other thread:

"While "Happy Up Here" is a pleasant enough "Eple" rehash, the rest of the album is very good, specifically the bouncy "Miss it So Much", the Kate Bush-y "You Don't Have a Clue" and the stupendously dramatic "The Girl and the Robot" with Robyn. My only problem is with the very irritating "Tricky Tricky" which will probably be a big hit to spite me.

Royksopp do reinforce my theory that Robyn, Lykke Li, Karin Dreijer and Kate Havnevik are all the same person though."

Also, I don't know if it's really them "going pop", as they were pretty pop already.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 9 March 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

'Happy Up Here' reminds me as much of 'Radio #1' as 'Eple' - the criticism for this reminds me of the Get Me Bodied/Single Ladies argument, MEH

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

Also, I don't know if it's really them "going pop", as they were pretty pop already.

I classified it as such, mainly due to the presence of so many vocalists this go-round.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 March 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

Gotcha.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 9 March 2009 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

Hey, dahnce neophyte here, but this album was pretty enjoyable off one listen. I like the Karin tracks here way more than those on her mope-through-the-blandness solo album.

The-Reverend (rev), Monday, 9 March 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

man if it was Kate Bush singing 'You Don't Have A Clue' i think i would die (add Liz Frasier on backing to be sure). i love Anneli Drecker's voice anyway.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

wow i'm excited. lol rev

Surmounter, Monday, 9 March 2009 19:45 (sixteen years ago)

i'm confused why you guys think "you don't have a clue" is the kate bush jam. it's obviously "this must be it"!

cutty, Monday, 9 March 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

i think just because Drecker sounds closer to Bush in subtle cooing mode than Dreifer does to loud screechy Bush

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 9 March 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)

I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO HEAR THIS.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 9 March 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)

Anyone else recognise something familiar in Vision One? (Listen to the first ten seconds of Stevie Wonder's Innervisions album)

StanM, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 22:41 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, I was just about to post that.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 12 March 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)

The Parliament and Stevie cops seemed so obvious as to not be worth pointing out.

as per diddy's twitter (The Reverend), Thursday, 12 March 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

i think just because Drecker sounds closer to Bush in subtle cooing mode than Dreifer does to loud screechy Bush

Would say Drecker's voice is considerably closer to Liz Fraser than to Kate Bush.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 13 March 2009 02:33 (sixteen years ago)

anxiously awaiting

Dominique, Friday, 13 March 2009 02:53 (sixteen years ago)

Geir OTM, Drecker sounds more like Fraser than Bush especially towards the end of the song. Beautiful track BTW.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 1 May 2009 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

Recently I've taken a shine to the Lykke Li song. Pretty sure this has become my favorite of their albums, though.

The Girl And The Robot has remixes by Kris Menace, Spencer & Hill, Joakim, Chateau Marmont, Ocelot, Jean Elan AND Davide Rossi. TOO MANY MIX. What is this, a Ladyhawke song?

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 12:51 (sixteen years ago)

I noticed that. It's like a 10-track single. Tell me if any of them are any good.

xposts. I like the Rossi Mix A LOT. It's almost classical in feel. Not much beats going on either but sounds gorgeous.

In love with aroba.
