Dorky 90s indie question #1:
- In February 1997, Saint Etienne released an EP including an instrumental called "A Slavic Beauty with a Rose Between Her Teeth"
- Also in February 1997, Pavement released a record with a song containing the lyric "Slavic princess with a rose in her teeth"
My question: is the image/wording a reference to anything in particular? Anything anyone recognizes? (Or is it probably just something like, I dunno, someone from Saint Etienne hearing the song live or pre-release or something and nicking the phrase as a song title, music geeks and recyclers that they are?)

Dorky 80s indie question:
- In the movie Footloose (1984), on their trip either to or from the bar across the state line, they sing a song in the car, like a schoolyard-type chanty thing, punctuated by the phrase "oh yeah"
- On the first Beat Happening record (1985), there's a song called "I Love You" that is this same chant + oh yeah combination
My question, for anyone who knows the song: is this an actual schoolyard / driving / 99-bottles style song people ever sang? (Or did Beat Happening actually just steal a song from Footloose?)

Feel free to add any questions of your own that are remotely answerable, instead of just wondering out loud into the vast darkness

St. Etienne wiki (there's a St. Etienne wiki?) has this:
Boxette liner notes, 2007A line from a Pavement song inspired the title, written a good few years before Ana Ivanovic swanned on to Centre Court. This was recorded at Gerard Johnson’s Forest Hill cubby hole with Dot Allison in mind. No one can remember if she was informed of this fact, but she seemed to quite like it, thus damning it with faint praise. (BS)
