I picked "Hold On."

(and the actual title is 1979-89)

7 Yr Ache, easy.

Alfred, have you ever heard her first two albums, from 1978 and 1980 (pre-Ache)? I haven't, but I've been wondering how pub rock/new wave they are.

Right and Wrong is a strange one: an uncertain transition from Heart Like a Wheel-esque pop-country to the stirrings of an imagination jazzed by Crimes of Passion (Benatar).

I went with "Seven Year Ache", but it's not an easy choice, this collection is so densely rich. My next choices would be "Never Be You", "Blue Moon With Heartache", and "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me". I'm surprised "Rosie Strikes Back" wasn't a hit: it fits right into this mix.

I knew this was a Soto poll before moving my eyes slightly to the right to find out for sure. Which 1980s keeper of the well-made song is up next for polliage? Marti Jones?

I'll have to spin this again to know for sure but I trust I'll go for "Seven Year Ache" too in the end.

I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me is good too. And I don't want to spoil the party is one of the better Beatles covers.

Agreed. I was hoping someone would vote for it.

Good job, people. I declare this poll to be a success.

one year passes...

"Hold On" is a corker, isn't it?

sandra lee, gimme your alcohol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 6 November 2010 01:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah "Hold On" is great; the rhythm is disco more or less, really pinched almost, but it's right for the song's resolute defensiveness (& with backing vocals like that, I'd say her defense stands a pretty good chance)
