A unique thing happens to me sometimes when I'm feeling so sleepy and lying in a bed. Some unknown songs, usually without vocals, play in my mind and they sound catchy! It could be from any genre, depending on what I've been heavily listening to. If I were a producer I'd probably have some hit singles right now. Sorry for my dodgy English.

well then try to write 'em. get a cheap tape recorder, whistle your awesome melodies in it, and try to play 'em on a guitar or keyboard the next day.

yes and i usually convince myself whether theyre good or not, and if i decide it's good, i'll play it into a tape recorder.. it's a good way to spark the brainstorming process...

This totally happens to me too! The songs are usually really good. But I suspect some part of my brain might be fooling another part of my brain into thinking they're good when they're not.

i started hurriedly writing down descriptions whenever this happened so that i might be able to make them. they never sound quite as amazing the morning after tho.
