e.g.

"I was blind, now I can see, you made a believer out of me", Primal Scream "Moving On Up", from "Yoo Doo Right" Can.

"I was 21 years when I wrote this song, I'm 22 now but I wont be for long" Billy Bragg "New England", from "Leaves that are green" Simon and Garfunkel.

Acknowledged, or otherwise...

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

I was blind, now I can see, you made a believer out of me

I dunno this is a pretty goddamned generic lyric, might as well say he ripped it from Amazing Grace

Six By Seven - "All I Really Want From You Is Love" is a (really really good) lyrical rewrite of a certain Bob Dylan song, set to different music

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

yep, Spacemen 3 misappropriated loads of lyrics (as well as riffs). For example:

"She's got an O.D. catastrophe, she's got a big O.D." (to the tune of The Stooges "TV Eye")

or

"It's 1987 and all I wanna do is get stoned, and all I want you to do is take my body home" (e.g. basically "In my time of dying": In my time of dyin', Don't want nobody to mourn, All I want for you to do, Is to take my body home)

"I was blind, now I see" is the Bible from John Chpt9 but it was probably meant as a reference to Can. There's a lot of this kind of thing on Screamadelica obviously. But I think that was in the spirit of the times - a lyrical version of sampling, rather than a straight rip-off.

isn't the "my love shines on" tag on Movin On Up copped from some other song too...?

The Stooges "1970" took a big chunk from Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me."
