I know it's kind of vague but listening to In the Days Before Rock 'n' Roll and Van seems to be having a great old time especially when he's doing an impersonation of a radio. And it's not something I normally associate with him, although I suspect he does it more than he's given credit for (anyone who has that photo of him being chased around by Spike Milligan wearing a penis nose - please to post to thread). Any others?

Oh that's a good one. And better than the more obvious ones like D'yer mak'er or Hot Dog.

Any of Emerson Lake & Palmer's comedy relief songs ("Benny The Bouncer", um, some others). They should've stayed uptight really.
― Matt #2, Thursday, 26 March 2009 23:43 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, but do Zep ever seem uptight? Maybe they do.

Pink Floyd, "Free Four" and "Seamus" among a few others. (Referring only to post-Syd era, here.)

Vehemently disagree about Zep; they sounded loose a lot of the time, actually, and "The Crunge" is one of the only times their funk sounds like they were forcing it to make a point. But that's just me.
Anyway.

actually "the world's my oyster soup kitchen floor wax museum" is on the same album as "prozakc blues" and is similarly loopy/jocular

King Crimson's "Heartbeat" is a bit like this. To the point of being a bit "ew" to me actually. Them singing a sexy song about they lady just... doesn't work.

Not sure I really agree with it but this was widely stated about In Rainbows.

I wasn't thinking that Radiohead were ever that uptight, but HTTT is like 4387934x looser and more playful than IR

The Beach Boys were never that uptight but songs like "Little Pad" document them at their most lazy.

And perhaps "In Bloom" by Nirvana, if any song by them ever quite fits in here.
― Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 March 2009 11:19 (sixteen years ago)
Hmm.. I mean "Lithium", not "In Blooom".
(The latter being uptight as few, as it is an attack on their own fans) ;)
Hooligan by Embrace wins this. Wins it hard. Really, really hard. Most uptight band ever.
― Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 27 March 2009 12:31 (sixteen years ago)
How is "uptight" being defined? Is it in reference to the rhythm section, or are we referring to a moment of levity for an otherwise serious band?
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 27 March 2009 13:27 (sixteen years ago)
I was thinking more of the latter but the former would be interesting too.
