Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Saturday, 28 March 2009 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

Zeno, Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

those are the most famous anyway

Zeno, Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

The question suggests a factual test, not a subjective poll.

Zeno, Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

but the question does not ask "which would you love to be true", rather "which is actually true".

Duke, Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

so which would you love to be true?

Zeno, Saturday, 28 March 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

those are the most famous anyway

No Rod Stewart/Jon Bon Jovi etc. having cum pumped out of his stomach, no credibility.

President Keyes, Sunday, 29 March 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

President Keyes, Sunday, 29 March 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

no stomach pumping, no credibility.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 03:03 (sixteen years ago)

I want to speak in favor of this poll. Those polls with every last fuckin possible option that anybody might possibly object to having been left out are really boring and obnoxious. Zeno has the right idea.

My favorite here is "Knights in Satan's Service" but that's partly because I read an article about Kiss being dead and replaced by imposters when I was nine, in some kind of Tiger Beat special thing at a newstand, and it scared the shit out of me, and that the rumor never caught on or anything seemed to make it even scarier.

The article had what pretended to be a transcript of a tape recovered from the wreck, like a black box recording documenting the real Kiss's last moments on earth, and it was fucking awesome.

Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Sunday, 29 March 2009 03:34 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I kind of remember that thing about KISS being replaced too, reading that in some teen magazine. For years I've been trying to understand whether those kinds of weird stories were just more common then, since it was harder to corroborate information, or whether it was just a function of me being 7 or 8 and not being able to understand context or possibly sarcasm.

Mark, Sunday, 29 March 2009 03:41 (sixteen years ago)

Easy there, JD. I really wasn't expecting a yahoo news thing to bring up the Rod Stewart/whoever rumor.

Until 55 minutes ago, I thought the Manson/Monkees rumor was God's truth.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

I remember people bitching about Marylin Mason opening for Danzig when the Wonder Years was still on the air. Wonder when that one cropped up.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 04:04 (sixteen years ago)

aw why not just poll The most interesting pieces of pop music trivia that you know (that are 100% false)

Just last week I'd considered polling my own contributions to that thread, then decided that would be too egotistical, even tho I'd readily confess to now hating 40% of 'em

Myonga Vön Bontee, Sunday, 29 March 2009 08:29 (sixteen years ago)

The Manson/Wonder Years rumor seems like a latter day version of the Alice Cooper/Leave It to Beaver rumor.

President Keyes, Sunday, 29 March 2009 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

Taking them together with the KISS rumors, I guess it's easier/desirable to make up stories about guys in heavy make-up. I wonder if there were any good King Diamond rumors.

President Keyes, Sunday, 29 March 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

Depending on how you define "slept together", the Bowie/Jagger one may be true.

snoball, Sunday, 29 March 2009 12:43 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think the stomach pump thing can be called a "great music mystery", because originally it was an urban legend about an anonymous cheerleader, before it was attributed to various pop stars.

Tuomas, Sunday, 29 March 2009 12:58 (sixteen years ago)

Personally though, I would've included these urban legends too:

* Mama Cass choked on a sandwhich (a lot of people still seem to think this one is true).

* Frank Zappa ate his own shit in a gross-out contest with Alice Cooper (or Ozzy Osbourne).

* You can hear the voice of someone being murdered in the studio in Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster".

Tuomas, Sunday, 29 March 2009 13:06 (sixteen years ago)

Not just a sandwich, a ham sandwich.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Sunday, 29 March 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

What I love about the Zappa legend is that now it's hard to imagine his puerile antics could ever have been menacing enough to fuel such a rumor.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 15:36 (sixteen years ago)

It's the Rod Stewart/stomach pump rumour that I don't understand - because it relies on somehow believing in the face of overwhelming evidence that Rod is/was gay.

snoball, Sunday, 29 March 2009 15:40 (sixteen years ago)

I think the stomach pump speaks to a Freudian need in het American males to dismiss foppish European guys from having any real appeal to the ladies. I know in my high school Duran Duran were generally considered fags. The boys don't like it, but the little girls understand.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

What about the Ozzy rumor that he threw a bunch of puppies into the audience and wouldn't start singing till they were all dead?

kornrulez6969, Sunday, 29 March 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

Ozzy was a cottage industry with these things because he really did bite that bat. After that, anything seemed possible.

Mark, Sunday, 29 March 2009 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

Also because with his drinking related blackout problems back then, people would say to him "hey Ozzy, you remember last week when you did XYZ?", and he'd be "err...?"

snoball, Sunday, 29 March 2009 16:19 (sixteen years ago)

>wonder if there were any good King Diamond rumors.

I heard he's a mellow dude who would prefer to be out bass fishing.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

Isn't one of the Ozzy ones about snorting a line of ants?

And I've heard the stomach pump one about Mark Almond as well...

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Sunday, 29 March 2009 17:02 (sixteen years ago)

I personally prefer the Elvis-is-dead-rumour anyway.

t**t, Sunday, 29 March 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

I've always heard the stomach pump one about Marc Almond.

I took a class on teaching sex ed a couple months ago and apparently the stomach pumping myth is still circulating but in recent years the "victim" has been Lil' Kim. lol.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Sunday, 29 March 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

The Ozzy/ants story is in Motley Crue's autobiography. Osbourne claims to have no recollection of the incident.
The person in the stomach pump story depends mostly on when you first heard it - Elton John, Bon Jovi, Jagger, Bowie, Alanis Morrisette, Lil Kim, etc., etc..

snoball, Sunday, 29 March 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

Right, of course. The teacher was just saying that in this area Lil Kim is the one she hears most often from teens.

hahahaha

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Sunday, 29 March 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

Not to get all "Back in my day...", but that story is way better with Rod Stewart. He will never be topped when it comes to urban legends involving gastric lavage.

Mark, Sunday, 29 March 2009 18:25 (sixteen years ago)

He will never be topped

I thought that the point of the rumour was that he was?

snoball, Sunday, 29 March 2009 18:29 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I like the "outing" version of the stomach pump, rather than the "confirming our suspicions" versions.

bendy, Sunday, 29 March 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

Dunno, but Miley Cyrus is braindead like the rest of her family, so I went for that.

Angie found DB and MJ in bed.

According to her book..

Guitar tech blowing cocaine up Stevie Nicks' ass with a straw.

Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Monday, 30 March 2009 12:46 (sixteen years ago)

^ why I voted for it

her mealymouthed "well I have no evidence at all that they actually boned and they said they were just playing a prank on me but by crikey it will sell me some copies of my awful book we'd all love to think of two such creative genii together so lets say it happened" doesn't lean well towards TRUTH though
