Few bands' fans seem more split on which is representative of their best work than those of this French duo. Some love one or two records and have a visceral hate for another. Others have one record they worship and cannot be bothered with any of the others.

Where does ILM stand?

(Oh, and comps and remixes do not count, kids, thus, no stuck-up "It was all downhill after Premier Symphonies," s'il vous plait...)

Premiers Symptomes you philistine

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Sunday, 29 March 2009 18:14 (sixteen years ago)

They might have better moments elsewhere, but Moon Safari is really, really, really good at being what it is.

iatee, Sunday, 29 March 2009 18:30 (sixteen years ago)

I say Talkie Walkie.

Mark, Sunday, 29 March 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

Moon Safari

but a new comp of their best tracks inc. deep cuts like Radian and Run would be among the best things ever

Premiers Symptomes you philistine

Indeed.

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 29 March 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

moon safari all the way.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 29 March 2009 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

Talkie Walkie, so gorgeous.

Euler, Sunday, 29 March 2009 19:45 (sixteen years ago)

10 000 Hz Legend has grown on me over the years. I don't know if I can forgive it that Beck track so at to vote for it in this poll (will probably go with TW), but I really want to.

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Sunday, 29 March 2009 20:07 (sixteen years ago)

Fwiw, I'm leaning Talkie Walkie -- it's all very listenable and easy on the ears, but its high points are breathtaking. "Cherry Blossom Girl" and "Run," which is probably my favorite Air moment, period. It's like a dot-matrix computer read-out of 10cc and everything I like about them in 4 minutes or so.

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 30 March 2009 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

"Cherry Blossom Girl" made me realize I actually do like Air, a hell of a lot, so I have to say Talkie Walkie.

BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Monday, 30 March 2009 16:06 (sixteen years ago)

"Alpha Beta Gaga" and "Cherry Blossom Girl" are the two I keep coming back to on TW. Shame the former was used on that advert. It's really kinda awesome. Haven't got 1000Hz but Electronic Performers is massively groovy. Not sure they ever topped "J'ai Dormi Sous L'Eau" tho tbh ;-)

Premiers Symptomes you philistine

Well if you really want to get pedantic, it's actually Premiers Symptômes

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 30 March 2009 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

Talkie Walkie, but will admit that at some point they all sound the same.

The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 March 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

Shame the former was used on that advert

if you still like it why is that a problem?

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 30 March 2009 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

It isn't really! Just that I'll probably never shake its association with the evils of telecommunication mass-marketing

Zayatte Mondatta (country matters), Monday, 30 March 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

Moon Safari > Pocket Symphony > Talkie Walkie > 10,000 Hz Legend (haven't heard the Virgin Suicides soundtrack apart from the movie itself)

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Monday, 30 March 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

Talkie > 10000 = Moon >>> Pocket

Simon H., Monday, 30 March 2009 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

Still Moon Safari, though haven't heard it for ages.

zeus, Monday, 30 March 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

Having listened to "Electronic Performers" all evening I'm willing to describe it as Air's finest moment.

Zayatte Mondatta (country matters), Monday, 30 March 2009 18:59 (sixteen years ago)

Well if you really want to get pedantic, it's actually Premiers Symptômes

you could argue, "well accents are usually left out when you capitalize stuff in french" - BUT one could argue that they left out the accent (and thus spelled it wrong) - most likely to create fascinating internet debates like this one.

iatee, Monday, 30 March 2009 19:05 (sixteen years ago)

Electronic Performers video still awes

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Monday, 30 March 2009 19:12 (sixteen years ago)

^^^I have been listening to it through the medium of Youtube, hence have also been enjoying the totally A+ video

Zayatte Mondatta (country matters), Monday, 30 March 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

oh shit I just listened to 1000Hz on Spotify and this is SO CLEARLY the right choice in this poll

so good

Zayatte Mondatta (country matters), Monday, 30 March 2009 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

Moon Safari by light years (ooh, see what I did there?)

Alex in NYC, Monday, 27 April 2009 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

Talkie Walkie is so wicked sexy of an album. Seriously, put it on if you want someone to make sex with you.

10 000 Hz Legend (2001) - 2 - this makes me sad (I did vote TW, but only by a slim margin)

tevin "ratt" campbell (Pillbox), Tuesday, 28 April 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

yeah I'm sorta surprised wrt that one, I thought ilm liked it

iatee, Tuesday, 28 April 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

i missed the poll and probably would've voted for it fwiw

mark cl, Tuesday, 28 April 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

wtf ilx

sorry for british (country matters), Tuesday, 28 April 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

I missed this, but the best album won. The second best is disappointingly low with 2 votes though.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

actually alex the time it would take for light to get from the earth to the moon is just over one second so it wouldn't take light years for such a safari

~*GAME 2 SNYPA*~ (omar little), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

SOrry 10k Hz is comparatively week at bringing the sexy.

fillibustar superstar! (Abbott), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

weak

fillibustar superstar! (Abbott), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

Pocket Symph >>>> Talkie Walkie

baaderonixx, Thursday, 30 April 2009 11:04 (sixteen years ago)

Missed this, but would have voted Talkie Walkie in a heartbeat. There are all too many cafes, bars, shops and restaurants in this city who STILL think that playing Moon Safari = the height of sophistication, and so I could cheerfully never hear it again.

That said, I can't ever play Talkie Walkie again either - as we chose "Mike Mills" as the intro music at a family funeral. It worked beautifully, but that's one musical experience that has to be sealed shut.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 30 April 2009 11:45 (sixteen years ago)

four years pass...

Strongly feeling Pocket Symphony at the moment. Not sure why, haven't played it in years.
