What band has been the most perennially fashionable?

The Fall? Television?

Is their one band or artist that represents the ultimate "underground music" or counter-cultural signifier more than any other and has also maintained that status consistently? Who are the candidates?

Velvet Underground or Throbbing Gristle.

Kraftwerk has never fallen out of fashion, have they?

The Velvet Underground might be the obvious answer to my question.

It's gotta be VU.

my suggestions: Kraftwerk, James Brown, Parliament, Miles Davis, Velvet Underground, The Ramones, The Clash. i'm sure there's more, but those ones stand out to me as the people who are just about always mentioned by people across many genres as "influential" or whatever.

Yeah plenty of kids today who think the Beatles are either daggy, or worse, havent even heard of them (which is o_0)

one art, please (Trayce), Monday, 30 March 2009 02:14 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I guess I was thinking more in terms of "influential" than "fashionable." Can't really beat The Velvets here, though I think The Stooges might be catching up.

if they're always being called influential, i think that leads to them being fashionable amongst the people following the artists who cite them as influences. the stooges probably deserve to be on the list as well.
