Torn b/w UK Surf & Winterlong

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Monday, 30 March 2009 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

Euphrates

Kings of Lygon (SeekAltRoute), Monday, 30 March 2009 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

TOO HARD but my first instinct was Euphrates too.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Monday, 30 March 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

UK Surf is really one of the best reinventions of a song I've heard. I'm torn between that and Bailey's Walk. And maybe Into the White. Or The Thing. Or In Heaven.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 March 2009 05:06 (sixteen years ago)

Would definitely be In Heaven if it were the newer version with Kim singing...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

manta ray over the 2 neil covers.

mizzell, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

which manta ray?

starting-point for DTMR: Dick Dale's "Surf Beat"? (at least the intro...?)

jagged-electronically mäandernden underbody (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

So many great own songs, it's almost a shame that their cover versions are made of win as well. Can't help it, had to go with Winterlong.

nice user ID 'scrubs

Imaginary Dead Baseball Players Live in My Cornfield (Pillbox), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 02:43 (sixteen years ago)

Euphrates - definitive version (sorry Albini).

Chris in Belfast, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 12:33 (sixteen years ago)

Single version of River Euphrates does beat the Surfer Rosa version, I agree. I voted Manta Ray though.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 12:50 (sixteen years ago)

Would definitely be In Heaven if it were the newer version with Kim singing...

Yes.

ilxor, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

might vote for "The Thing" -- just the ending of "The Happening" but done up in a really nice Beach Boys-y style. Wouldn't be surprised if Black Francis is the only one playing on it though.

tylerw, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:24 (sixteen years ago)

Though I think hearing "UK Surf" was what made me at age 13 or 14 realize the sweetness of tracking down non-album tracks/b-sides.

tylerw, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

But "Winterlong" ... and those "Manta Ray" tunes ... hmm, a lot of great b-sides here. Hey, is this actually the "complete" b-sides? I'm feeling like there are some missing things, though I can't think of them. Maybe there are just some live tracks that were on a single or two?

Not the most popular of Pixies polls, but the results are probably about right. This is a bummer, though:

The Thing 0
Bailey's Walk 0

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 23:12 (sixteen years ago)

I can get with these results, tho I'm sorta bummed that no one voted for "Theme From Narc"
