this will be probably be a no contest to madonna, but voted kylie.

nu madonna has ruined madonna for me enough that I don't really ever want to listen to her ever again. we had good times in the past and that was fine, but now she is a roided out nutcase whose last album i actually felt insulted by it was so bad and i've moved on.

And plus, I love Love At First Sight more than most things in life, so Kylie easily.

Voted Kylie, running a sweep on first use of word "contrarian" other than this one.

Nu Madonna only renders Olde Madonna more awesome.

Kylie's been almost as polymorphously perverse and adaptable lately as Maddie was at her best, so I'm tempted. But no. Madonna.

can't really think of any yardstick by which kylie could win - i like a handful of her songs but 20 years into her career still couldn't care less about her. could've been rachel stevens for all the personality she's shown. for one album, it was rachel stevens!

madonna's basically built up such a backlog of good karma that nu-madonna's efforts to discredit here are really in vain.

also, nu-kylie isn't all that either. hard candy was a way better album than x.

Pretty much agree with people upthread. Gonna go with Madonna but only because not many things are better than old Madonna. If we were considering only the period in which they coexisted (roughly '87-present), it would be Kylie.

Based upon her entire eighties-to-noughties run, this has to be Madonna. While both were in a blind alley during most of the 90s, Madonna first and foremost scores because her 80s material is so much better than whatever Stock/Aitken/Waterman did for Kylie. In the 00s, they have both been kinda nice, with some electro elements and among the better mainstream-ish music out there.

And, I mean, by the time Madonna released the glorious "Like a Prayer" album - still the best thing she's done, Kylie was still a brainless PWL-marionette.

But, really, "Fever" and "Body Language" are up there with the quality of most Madonna albums.

Geir's right, actually.

Madonna had higher highs, but at this point if we're talking full career I think Kylie's better.
