he used to be great, now he just plays generic ëLëc7|2ô |-|ÕÙsE hits from 3 years ago. keep chi state of mind & the kanye's soul mixshow mixtape and burn the rest. burn the rest, bury it deep and we'll pretend it never happened.

but hes got a beard and is making "disco flavoured" remixes now so i suppose that proves he is very forward looking these days

live this guy is 100% a great party DJ. two or three years ago i saw him w/ flosstradamus opening. he is 10,000x the DJs that they are -- even when doing 'corny' shit (i.e. 'ac/dc + rap music' type shit he was doing in '06) he still has a great ear for keeping the dance floor going & build->release, understanding of the logic of songs & why the work the way they do on the floor.

hes seamless in a way that comes only w/ grinding + experience ... & has pretty great taste these days judging from this

i mean hes into funky house & aeroplane ... considering the kind of dudes he runs w/ hes got a lot more nuance & understanding of the music i think

ive never listened to any of his mixes though, and im sure some of them are sorta questionable experiments ...

seriously, a-trak is the real deal & anyone who has ever jocked flosstradamus or girl talk should really be checking for him instead

the Fabric mix is very intensely pleasurable. it's hard to make that kind of very up, in your face stuff work at length, but he does it. there's definitely a historical-timeline aspect to it that I like, but you wouldn't have to know anything about that to get into it.

i like the fabric mix too but I wonder if harvell's criticism of the recent sinden mix for fabric ("tiring" in a word) doesn't apply here as well

i checked out the tracklist and "tiring" is one of the first things that came to mind.

'Tiring' is a lil misleading; I never really see ppl dance to this stuff for extended periods. Its basically like, when u are ready to dance for maybe 45 seconds, yr guaranteed peak time music

Last party I played I lost some hearing, its made me really pull back sharply on listening to so much of this stuff. I honestly still feel like anything this universally critically reviled has to have something going for it. Even it is just blatant crass populism.

A-Trak seems to know what he's doing, can't fake the years of actual turntablism anyways.

I just meant that the track selection largely had a "jacking" Chicago feel without necessarily being jacking Chicago tracks.
