bros pt 1 i guess... i think "take pills" and "good girls/carrots" sink the record. everything else is really good tho, esp "i'm not" which sounds like ghostly choral music from like the 16th century

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:28 (sixteen years ago)

good girls/carrots>comfy in nautica>take pills>bros>ponytail>i'm not>search for delicious.

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:30 (sixteen years ago)

The middle part of Good Girls/Carrots is very catchy (starting at about 6:30). Is that Part 2? It kind of reminds me of My Girls from the new Animal Collective disc.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:33 (sixteen years ago)

"i think "take pills" and "good girls/carrots" sink are the best songs on the record"

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:33 (sixteen years ago)

Agreed. But don't go by me; I was listening to Air Supply before this. Also: Drunk!

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:34 (sixteen years ago)

those songs are both long and not very interesting imo, i havent listened to them in a while tho because lol they're long

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, the first part of Good Girls/Carrots is boring. It gets better.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:37 (sixteen years ago)

"Is that Part 2?"

PART 1:

GOOD GIRL

isnt there anyone else in this place
who can tell me right now
dont be afraid
theres no one else here
who can hang out like i do

just this good girl

as i feel the tour drop out
i can feel the creeps creep in
ive got a big baby
that makes my sides burst
and tempura makes it bleed
no question im stressed
with only this good girl
doing her best

just this good girl
PART 2:

CARROTS

that old good boy mitch just wanted
to tell some jokes
well now im just trying
to play some notes
do you know what i say
do you know what i mean?
have you heard through these words
just how im seen
theres a reason that i work
so hard at this stuff
when all i want to do
is take it easy

its not a ticket
for you to pick at
other people
who dont know whats up
like youre so sure you do

you kind of make me want to
shut your mouth just to keep out
all of those unfriendly feelings
just because youve got
a lot of wax
and all those first editions
i want you to know
sticks and stones may
break my bones
but words will never hurt me
all i need to know
i knew so early

its so lame that
you could take my feelings
and make yourself feel
like youre better than
anyone else who hasnt heard

PART 3:

listen in between your notes
theres something been going on
while you were busy taking notes
and look in between your moments
theres something good happening
its good to sometimes
slow it down

whats the point in pouring it all out
when you guys just wear it on your coat?
i believe that for this piece of time
we can really crank us up a lot
get your head out from those mags
and websites who try to
shape your style
take a risk just for yourself
and wade into the deep end of the ocean

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

"bros" is masterpiece tho

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:40 (sixteen years ago)

good girls/carrots:
part 3>part 1>>part 2

about the length:
it's hard to say those songs are too long/boring, when actually it's 3 totally different songs stick together A 1 track in good girls, or 2 songs in 1 track in take pills.

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:41 (sixteen years ago)

Okay. It's the second-half of Part 2 when the song gets rolling. Part 3 is . . . meh.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:42 (sixteen years ago)

"Yeah, the first part of Good Girls/Carrots is boring"

SO RONG.
(unless you dont like stuttered sung awesome african beats...(not many examples of that in music history))

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

one highlight example (out of some) of genius pop writing, that should bring Lennox the Noble Prize.

it's also my vote for this poll.

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:49 (sixteen years ago)

dude what

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:52 (sixteen years ago)

i like the contradiction between the relatively sophisticated music of AC and Panda Bear's against the simplicity and straighforward approach of Lennox lyrics.

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:53 (sixteen years ago)

he's a good songwriter but his lyrics don't always stay on the right side of sentimental or earnest

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:54 (sixteen years ago)

that passage being a good example imo

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:54 (sixteen years ago)

i meant the melody of that part, not the lyrics when talking about the genius mind of Lennox btw.
agree there are better examples of his lyrics

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:58 (sixteen years ago)

I voted for I'm Not just 'cuz I figured no one would. It's not really my favorite, but it certainly has a place in my heart and wanted to see it get some love.

DJ Mr. Face Stabba, M.D. (Whitey on the Moon), Sunday, 5 April 2009 04:59 (sixteen years ago)

no one would vote for Delicious, unless it's a person who hate the record

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

every time I see mention of the song "Bros" I always (involuntarily) think "before hos".

told you this before but you are INSANE.

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:33 (sixteen years ago)

interesting idea for a poll tho. have to go with good girl/carrots pt 3

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:34 (sixteen years ago)

yea dude j0rdan between this & th g20 challops thread i'm kinda like ur fucking crazy

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:36 (sixteen years ago)

but yea i'm about 5 beers deep and will have to listen to all these parts again & make a decision

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

good poll tho

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

kevin is my bro here

Zeno, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

cuz 'take pills' is fucking great

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:38 (sixteen years ago)

to say that it 'sinks the record' is like WOW

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:38 (sixteen years ago)

fuck that '16th century' bullshit

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:39 (sixteen years ago)

even tho 'search for delicious' is gorgeous that's not really what this record's about

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:39 (sixteen years ago)

same w/ 'i'm not'

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:40 (sixteen years ago)

yeah your rankings were pretty close to what i would go with here. for me it's:

good girl/carrots
bros
comfy in nautica
take pills
ponytail
im not
search for delicious

the first four are very close tho, and i like every song here quite a bit

(xpost to zeno)

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:41 (sixteen years ago)

tracks 1-2 are perfect. bros is insane til it starts breaking down, then it's good but not as good as the 1st part. the drum-tribal shit on good girl/carrots sometimes grates but the last two parts are incredible. i love 'search for delicious' + ponytail

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

i still love this album more than any other AC

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:46 (sixteen years ago)

I still love Bros more than I love "bros."

Cunga, Sunday, 5 April 2009 05:46 (sixteen years ago)

Truth: "Bros" peaks when it starts breaking down, the first part of "Good Girl/Carrots" is amazing.

Tim F, Sunday, 5 April 2009 07:18 (sixteen years ago)

"Bros" peaks when it starts breaking down

^yeah

i think this album is really good im just not really into two of the three long songs, and don't care enough about panda (tho i do like him and AC) to make a hug effort into liking the long two that i dont like

i think mermaids are real (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 07:27 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know if I've mentioned that when I first burnt the album I accidentally included "Good Girl/Carrots" twice (though not in a row), and only realised my mistake when I bought the album a few weeks later.

Tim F, Sunday, 5 April 2009 07:38 (sixteen years ago)

lol sorry guys now it's the morning and i must give apologies for making dubious claims about "what this record is really about"

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

but in any case i think i'm voting 'take pills'

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

tho i'm having a hard time deciding between pt 1 & pt 2

mark cl, Sunday, 5 April 2009 14:19 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, and I made some perhaps hasty comments about Part 1 of Good Girls/Carrots. I need to give that opening movement another go. I'm just immediately grabbed by the second half of Part 2.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 5 April 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

cuz 'take pills' is fucking great

Ponytail for me.

zeus, Sunday, 5 April 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

I'm voting for Good Girl/Carrots pt 1. I bought the split release with Excepter after eyeing its handsome covers and put in on with very little expectation, mostly expecting something a little more pop than Young Prayer but those drums came in too loud and it caught me very sweetly.

ogmor, Sunday, 5 April 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

no one would vote for Delicious, unless it's a person who hate the record

I did, and I don't. It's the purest distillation of the aesthetic, or something.

ecuador_with_a_c, Sunday, 5 April 2009 16:35 (sixteen years ago)

also jordan take pills is like five minutes long!

prostitutes all over the place (k3vin k.), Sunday, 5 April 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

I stand by:

Panda Bear is the worst music I've ever heard.

moullet, Sunday, 5 April 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

wait i don't get what "Bros" Part 2 is supposed to be

I'd like to vote for "Bros" but I object to this premise

crab ringgoon (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Sunday, 5 April 2009 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

i assume bros part 2 is when the cat stevens guitar sample and equals vocal sample kicks in.
fairly legit since they were originally 2 separate songs.

right thread, Ned (mizzell), Sunday, 5 April 2009 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

this live album from 2004 has Bros part 1 listed as Homebase

dog latin, Wednesday, 10 March 2010 09:39 (fifteen years ago)

Dividing the songs into "parts" undermines much of the genius of the album. He's able to cohesively tie together seemingly unrelated segments in a way that somehow makes total sense. The transition that evolves through the third minute of "Take Pills" is probably the best part of the album.
