Honest thoughts on my friend's band

Hey guys. My friend Anthony's band recently appeared on the red bull live sessions. This is kind of New Zealand's far less impressive attempt to mirror the Peel Sessions and each week a different band comes on and plays a few songs. Sometimes a band you guys may have heard of come on (The Ruby Suns, The Mint Chicks, Headless Chickens, Shihad, The National, Chris Knox, The Veils, Kasabian etc...) but usually it's a fledgling up and coming local act. Anyway, my friend's band definitely fall into the second category. I went to school with these guys (The Glass Owls) and when I heard them on the radio I was shocked. I was certain I'd have to lie and say they were good (as I have done many times in the past) but they were pretty decent.

Here's the link: http://www.redbullstudio.co.nz/live-sessions/glass-owls. The last two songs (Summer Girl and Sarah) are the good ones, I'd say, and you probably should only really bother with them.

i'm not a fan of rock bands in general, but this is actually pretty good. the singer has a good, classic-sounding voice, ie not overly affected or whiny pussyrock-esque.

yeah, tom's a real talent. great voice and he's written a lot of their better songs.

two years pass...

Do we have a thread for pimping bands your friends are in? My buddy Ross made this record and I think it's good:

I mentioned it in the Tune-Yards thread (Merrill Garbus does backing vocals on track 4). Thoughts?
