Two late 90s albums heavily influenced by Ziggy-era Bowie, but with "industrical" electronic elements added to the mix. But which one is the best?

No doubt about my vote for "Head Music" here. A great album that is easily the most underrated Suede album. Personally I even rank it ahead of "Dog Man Star" (but not quite up there with the debut or "Coming Up").

The Manson one is also his best moment, but still cannot compare with Suede at close to their best.

That's actually the only Marilyn Manson album I'd want to hear again at this point, some really great singles. So yeah, that one.

Manson. It's his best, most varied album by a long shot, whereas Head Music, much as I love Suede, is way more uneven (though great at its best).

I have no desire to hear either of these atrocities again, but yeah, it's comparing Manson's best (hah!) to one of Suede's worst and that's a pretty easy decision. This is gonna be a landslide.

This is very Calumesque, this one.

god that's some awful cover art on the manson album. i'd forgotten what that looked like.

that said, it was quite a good album. seemed to stretch his capabilities and songwriting smarts about as far as they were gonna go. the title track in particular was a really great song.

that suede album doesn't even register with me, and i've got a couple of their albums lying around somewhere.

"god that's some awful cover art on the manson album." You know there's an action figure, right?

"Mechanical Animals" by a mile.

Just out of curiosity, when was the the last time any of you listened to either? I'm not winding anyone up, just wondering.

I've never heard Head Music, even though Suede were my favourite band and I saw them tour on its release, there was nothing there to prompt me to shell out on it. It was pretty obvious the game was up by then. I've never heard Mechanical Animals either, but then I wouldn't have expected to.

I'm still voting for Head Music just for Brett's wheeze of announcing its title one letter at a time. The NME were having kittens by week two as I recall

I'm sure I've listened to Mechanical Animals within the last year.

The videos are good, trashy fun and frequently get picked during drunken late night trawls of Virgin cable TV's (dismal) "Music on Demand" selection.

I listen to either "Great Big White World" or "Disassociative" at least once every two weeks.

I can sit in my car all day, and that doesn't make me a car. (HI DERE), Monday, 20 April 2009 03:33 (sixteen years ago)

Really, "Can't Get Enough" is the only song I have any time for off of Head Music. It's a real "Wtf did I just spend my money on?" album.

I've never heard A New Morning? either, obviously.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 20 April 2009 17:36 (sixteen years ago)
