There isn't a song called 'POLLway to Heaven' or 'The POLL of Evermore' or "POLLING Days' or 'POLLby Dick' or 'Four POLLs' in the Led Zep catalog okay.

However, 'Rock and POLL' might be acceptable 4
Seriously you can tell it's a poll, it's got the red parenthetical announcement 3
The things, they aren't even any kind of word play; replacing another word with the word poll I mean sheesh 3
Abbott you are being cranky 3
It's freaking red, come on 2
Why is this done? 1

tbh i think it's kind of annoying too, but when you're doing a search for a poll thread, it helps b/c search results don't tell you if it's a poll or not

(admittedly this only helps so long as at least one of the other words is searchable)

I think accusations of me being cranky will win by a landslide.

i'm shy (Abbott), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 19:11 (sixteen years ago)

This is an apPOLLing trend.

Mark, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

Okay see I would love it if they were actual puns.

Abbott and I would like Geir and others to stop abusing the word "Poll" in their poll titles. A particularly exemplary example that Abbott just now gave was

"Simply Poll: The Best Simply Red album"

It has no fucking meaning, people. It's just plain stupid.

Geir, I love you to death for doing so many Genesis polls (it's helped me get further into those albums, thanks very very much) but as Autumn Almanac stated, you are abusing the word POLL in your POLL titles. "Polling England By The Pound" is unacceptable.

Thanks for listening.

A Breath of Fresh Culture (Bimble), Sunday, 21 June 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

I made that one up btw but it has verisimilitude up the ass.

baleen, the krill queen (Abbott), Sunday, 21 June 2009 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

You made it up? Brilliant.

A Breath of Fresh Culture (Bimble), Sunday, 21 June 2009 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

I have found out that toying with an album title putting "Poll" in there may be a bad idea because it makes it harder to use the Search function. So instead, I am trying to use a songtitle or a line from one of the tracks for a pun now. Also gives more to choose from, leaving out the worst puns.

The Poll Polls Down on Pollway

Eastürzendes Annoybaten (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 June 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

Hahahahah. Yeah, man. That will really help things, Geir. Like that will really really help things. Geir, we love you, but man...

Glad you linked to that particular poll, Noodle, though, cause in the middle of my huge Genesis trip, the other day I suddenly thought "Carpet Crawlers! Oh my god I'd completely forgotten about that song!" and Eureka! I did purchase it on iTunes and all was well.

A Breath of Fresh Culture (Bimble), Sunday, 21 June 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

Ah Bimble, wait till I do my Flux of Pink Indians "The POLLing POLLs POLL Us Like POLLs/The POLLing POLLs POLL Us Like POLLs" poll.

You know, Geir, I actually don't feel terribly strongly about all of your poll titles except that I'd like to be able to dig them up later in the search engine, probably. And you don't have to change if you don't want to. I very honestly and non-sarcastically admire your creativity with your poll titles. But might I humbly suggest that you name polls the way I name mine - "ARTIST - ALBUM" plus the word POLL maybe. That's how I name my polls. You don't have to do the same thing, but it's just a suggestion. Thanks, Geir. I'm in debt to you for starting all these lovely Genesis polls anyway.

I wasn't crazy about the recent happenstance when someone named their "Children of God" poll "Children of God" without Swans in the title, either. Because then if someone doesn't know the album, they have to go through a lot of guessing as to what everyone else is talking about, and I love that album just as much as lot of other people.

I'm just trying to be helpful, here. Not meaning any offense to anyone.

A Breath of Fresh Culture (Bimble), Sunday, 21 June 2009 20:26 (sixteen years ago)

Do you folks realize that someone (Hoos I believe) has done a poll of a Clash singles compilation and had the audacity to call it "POLLGLES"? What has happened to humanity? Ship is going down. I've lost all hope.

She's A Witch, You Son Of A (Bimble), Monday, 22 June 2009 08:31 (sixteen years ago)

tbf, the word "Clash" gives it some.

Mark G, Monday, 22 June 2009 08:34 (sixteen years ago)

Well you're definitely right about that, Mark. Good work on that front, Hoos! :)

this one's a new low imo: "It's Friday, I'm a Poll" - The "Wish" Poll

some dude, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 13:06 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think I get it... Is the original lyric "it's Friday, I'm apalled"?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)

It's "Friday I'm In Love"; and yeah, that's pretty bad.

"To Wish ImPOLLsible Things" woulda been a LOT better. (Only took me 45 seconds to think that one up - and that includes the time spent on AMG researching the song titles.)
