Wardance is so fulla energy - my vote

BlackIronPrison, Friday, 10 April 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

It probably won't get many votes, but Bloodsport remains my fave despite the unbelievable riffage of Requiem.

To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Friday, 10 April 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

"Change" VERY easily.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 10 April 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

"Change" wasn't on the original album, so I go with "Wardance."

Alex in NYC, Friday, 10 April 2009 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

Wardance is easily my fave KJ song.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

"Change" was on the original U.S. album, which is good enough for me; always liked that one and "Requiem" as a single, too. And "The Wait" and "Wardance" would be justifiable votes as well, obviously, but I'm gonna go with "$0.36" (which I've always thought of its title as -- 36 Cents also being change, obviously) for inventing Voivod.

xhuxk, Friday, 10 April 2009 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

(I actually agree that "Change" is the best track, just figured that one would get enough votes as is.)

xhuxk, Friday, 10 April 2009 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

Actually -- Alex should know the answer do this -- why do people call that track "S.O. 36"? That title looks pretty consistent on line, but the cover clearly calls it "$,0,36" as far I can tell.(Not sure why they used commas instead of decimal points, or put any punctuation at all after the dollar sign. But what the hell, they were still young.)

xhuxk, Friday, 10 April 2009 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

Listening to this now, it's some pretty good music.

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

you just got round to hearing this for the 1st time?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

how many 22 year-old English folk have heard this album? i'm willing to bet it's well into double-figures

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

more than have heard cardiacs albums.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

not completely sure that's true

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

not allowed to mention that band here anyway coz AINYC will drop by and casually inform me that my two favourite albums ever are crap post-shark-jumpage flights of fancy

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

and you say he's wrong?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

this KJ album is one of the greatest albums of all time. The cardiacs albums aren't.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

and if you want to start a KJ vs Cardiacs poll go ahead.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

i laugh at your puny bait

mind you this is a nice record indeed

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

and i have a full week to think of a favourite! early frontrunner is possibly Tomorrow's World but S.O. 36 is currently making something of a concerted effort

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Friday, 10 April 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)

Only ILM contrariness will stop Wardance and Requiem taking the 1st 2 spots.

state of the world today, Friday, 10 April 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

I see how voting for "$0.36" like I did means being "contrary", but not "Change" or "The Wait." ("Change" was the closest thing to a hit on the album, right? Didn't it even hit the dance charts? And people voting for "The Wait" are probably just Metallica fans.)

xhuxk, Friday, 10 April 2009 23:37 (sixteen years ago)

Plus "The Wait" was the first KJ song I ever heard, off the great Burning Ambitions comp. And I hear people praise "Change" more than any other KJ song. So I don't see how voting for either would be contrariness either.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 10 April 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

Hard to go past Wardance. 'Music to DAANCE to?!?'

moley, Saturday, 11 April 2009 00:28 (sixteen years ago)

The Wait. definitely. followed by Wardance.

Jamie_ATP, Saturday, 11 April 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

I think LJ should be praised for his willingness to investigate this kind of stuff, Pfunk, not taunted.

To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 02:57 (sixteen years ago)

Gonna willfully disqualify "Change" - I've got the Brit vinyl, though I play the CD way more - and go with the incredible death-disco of "Bloodsport".

Alex will disagree, but I much preferred Youth to Paul Raven.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Saturday, 11 April 2009 10:20 (sixteen years ago)

Wooohoo! Another comrade for Bloodsport! Thanks Myonga. You've made my night.

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 10:24 (sixteen years ago)

Whoops, looks like I downloaded the Duende Spanish Sessions version, which is fine, but must get back to the album version.

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 10:30 (sixteen years ago)

Oh my god, it's going to be a Killing Joke night, I can feel it.

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 10:32 (sixteen years ago)

Okay got the album version of Bloodsport and I think that Giorgio Moroder would have to eat some disco heavy metal hairspray for this.

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 10:46 (sixteen years ago)

I'm just happy that people are discussing Killing Joke in earnest, and not just winding me up. And the Cardiacs should have hung it up after Heaven Born.., but that's just my opinion.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 11 April 2009 12:44 (sixteen years ago)

You also missed me discovering Cop Shoot Cop the other day :D

("Room 429", in case you were wondering...a totally scorching, brilliant song)

a steak of romanticism (country matters), Saturday, 11 April 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

why do people call that track "S.O. 36"?

Because it's named after the SO36, a venue in West Berlin at the time

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 April 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

"Requiem", by the way

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 April 2009 14:37 (sixteen years ago)

Because it's named after the SO36, a venue in West Berlin at the time

ooooh, Tom pWned it! Ouch! Is this true, Alex?

Someone is repping for Requiem! Oh my god, I don't feel so lonely now.

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

I'll go for "Requiem" as well, tricky choice up against "wardance" and "change", though. Cracking album, this one.

mroo (Pashmina), Saturday, 11 April 2009 15:16 (sixteen years ago)

I just found some BBC live thing from 1995 or whatever. Oh my god. I don't see how it could be from 1995, though, cause the songs are from 1986 and before. I'm flabbergasted. Jesus H. where did this come from? For early songs, it's got Requiem, Wardance, Complications, Psyche, Tension, too...and a bunch of stuff from Brighter Than A Thousand Suns which I know Alex doesn't like too much, and of course stuff from Night Time, but damnit, these guys SHREDDED live. I've got a '85 Rockpalast DVD to prove it, and I'm tempted to go in the next room and put it on. Geordie was fucking STYLIN' on that, man. Even the shape of his guitar is part of his style, man. Can't fucking beat it.

I don't know why but they're just exactly what I want to hear right now. Thanks ILM!

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

they're still amazing live; original lineup shows at london forum last year were mindblowing. put
magazine who also played there recently to shame.
and i get to see em (KJ) again next month :-)

Jamie_ATP, Saturday, 11 April 2009 18:03 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, it's a venue, although I've never been sure what that has to do with the song in question. When they played here in NYC last October, before launching into it, Jaz spake: "And now a word from our sponsor." Didn't remember to ask him.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 11 April 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

COMPLICATIONS

Lucking Faptop (Bimble), Saturday, 11 April 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

Alex lots of ppl here secretly or not-so-secretly like killing joke, it's just more fun to wind you up tbh!

oh, menopaws (Curt1s Stephens), Sunday, 12 April 2009 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

I've been playing this album all fucking day. Can't get over "Change" either. I hope you're happy.

Phone of Drone (Bimble), Sunday, 12 April 2009 01:23 (sixteen years ago)

Change was never one of my favourites.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 12 April 2009 15:41 (sixteen years ago)

I get the feeling Bimble likes Killing Joke

state of the world today, Monday, 13 April 2009 14:20 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

i decided to vote Requiem since Wardance seems to be getting the votes from other posters.

state of the world today, Thursday, 16 April 2009 12:56 (sixteen years ago)

"The Wait", for the synth squiggles.

Discordian, Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

One the best album cover's ever btw.

Discordian, Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

But of course.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

Alex what album got you into KJ?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

(this was the 1st one I heard but that was in 1992)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Wow! Nice bunch of votes for this one, I'm pleased at the sheer numbers. Haha. Pisses me off about Wardance, though. Not a bad track, but folks, really...come now.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

wtf?? I'm the only one who voted for "Change????" Seems as if Alex in NYC was going to vote for it too. What happened?

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 17 April 2009 00:06 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that's fucked up. It's the best song on the record. I didn't vote for it because I figured it would get plenty of votes without me! (But I think Alex said he wasn't voting for it because it wasn't on the original UK album.)

xhuxk, Friday, 17 April 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

Right but that suggests that our resident KJ expert thinks it's the best song on the album too.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 17 April 2009 00:12 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I voted for Bloodsport, but how Change got only one vote is absolutely crazy.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Friday, 17 April 2009 06:04 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that's fucked up. It's the best song on the record. I didn't vote for it because I figured it would get plenty of votes without me!

― xhuxk

Yep, me neither, same reason!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 17 April 2009 07:25 (sixteen years ago)

I voted for "Wardance" because "Change" wasn't on the original LP, and I'm pathetic and pedantic like that.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:10 (sixteen years ago)

The album that got me into KJ was NightTime, and I worked backwards from there.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:11 (sixteen years ago)

Technically, it was actually the 12" of "Eighties" which came out the summer before the release of NightTime.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:12 (sixteen years ago)

I agree with the 1st 3.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

I thought change was going to win this after the posts it got

state of the world today, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

Backlash!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Saturday, 18 April 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

how in the double blue blazes did Tomorrow's World get 0

it's my favourite fwiw

acoleuthic, Thursday, 14 October 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

yeah wtf these are some bad results imo. "$0.36" and "change" are my two favourite songs on this album probably and they're way at the bottom. wardance and requiem are the two most obvious / boring choices.

marc iv, Thursday, 14 October 2010 00:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, much prefer "the wait" and "primitive" to the winner here. healthy debate.

miss danilelle steven and her clitoral stimulator, away! (contenderizer), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

the new album is gr8 btw

acoleuthic, Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:04 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't check them out early enough to vote in this poll, but listened a bit on Spotify and "Wardance" is indeed a great song.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)

requiem got my vote, discovering that song was like finding gold to me

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Thursday, 14 October 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

Well there's much more treasure where that came from!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 14 October 2010 03:24 (fifteen years ago)
