"indie-leaning" just makes me think of tepid iron-and-winey indie stuff, where "pop-leaning" makes me think of rihanna. soooooooooooo

Pre-menstrual maybe, but not pre-Beatles

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

lex, yoko stopped making music after the beatles broke up. writing all their songs was kind of draining for her, to be fair.

Henry Frog (Frogman Henry), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

to be serious for a second, lex I recommend the following:

- if you only have time for a single song because you're attention span can't handle anything longer than 3 1/2 minutes, I recommend her masterpiece ballad "What a Bastard the World Is" from "Approximately Infinite Universe".
- if you want to absorb her best full-length album, "Fly" is the one to start with.

Wow, nice pic!

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

oh yes I didn't notice the pre-beatles bit. she didn't release any albums until about 1970, she was busy staging happenings with her fluxus friends before that and making stuff like the ceiling painting:
http://www.arttowermito.or.jp/gif98jan/yes.gif

also if you want poppier music, don't listen to Fly because it has the "growling/yodelling" sound everyone makes fun of. Walking on Thin Ice is a singles comp & is poppy and fun!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, she did make music before she met Lennon, but I don't think much of it was recorded.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

oh i didn't know she didn't make music pre-beatles, i was just going on something i read about how the beatles ruined her. um, i'll check those out! i can handle non-pop yodelling.

i love beyoncé's dress in that photo!

Skin colour means absolutely zilsch, but indie (as in melodic, guitar based, pop music) >>>>>> R&B or hip-hop any day.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

And btw. does the Yoko option include the westernized pop usually played in Chinese restaurants these days? You know, sounding like Celine Dion or Katie Melua, only singing in Chinese or some other Asian language? I mean, it seems that goes home better than anything else in East Asia these days ;)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 14 April 2009 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

Finefinemusic's contribution to the Yoko Threads should earn her a medal. Yoko is so so classic even with the horrible images that both of the other options are putting in my head.

Bay-L.A. Bar Talk (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 23 December 2009 01:31 (sixteen years ago)

Yoko Ono has never done anything positive for music at all, but she is at times a very interesting artist. She should have stuck to that, preferrably never met John or anything...

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 23 December 2009 02:24 (sixteen years ago)

Yoko Ono has never done anything positive for music at all,

Now that that's coming from you, Geir, the hip-hop and beat-loving posters will definitely seek her out.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "Geir to the Future"

Geir: Doc, are you telling me you built a time machine...out of a Delorean?

Doc: Yes, what are you going to do with it?

Geir: Why kill James Brown of course
