LA Woman vs. A Taste Of My Love

"Peace Frog" VS "Still...You Turn Me On"

nicky lo-fi, Sunday, 19 April 2009 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, I'd probably give Bartok most of the credit for "The Barbarian". But I'd also give Albeniz credit for "Spanish Caravan"...

Sundar, Sunday, 19 April 2009 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

hmm ... "Moonlight Drive" vs. "Trilogy" ... I am going 'Moonlight Drive' on this one

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 19 April 2009 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

The Doors haven't released anything ever that comes even remotely close to "Karn Evil 9", so easy one.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 19 April 2009 08:41 (seventeen years ago)

LA Woman vs. Karn Evil 9 is pretty impossible for me actually

one thousand BIG HOOS raging and pounding (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Sunday, 19 April 2009 09:11 (seventeen years ago)

Okay, well I quite like this You Tube track Mulvaney posted, here, trying Karn Evil 9 now, but it'll be awhile because I don't want to hear crappy live versions on You Tube with no sound quality.

Someone is gonna have to try pretty hard to convince me that "The End" by The Doors isn't like, you know, one of the most amazing things ever. And this video I found of it was even better than the album version, SORRY DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME ON THIS. I used to have this whole video on my iPod, but I got rid of it because it took to much room, and...man I'm sad now ;_; Thank god it's still up and easy to get ahold of.

Also that song begs me to smoke weed, but I'm not going to do it.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Sunday, 19 April 2009 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

I have a "pee test" in a couple weeks and I've been a good boy. Leave me alone.

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"!

I mostly loathe the Doors, but I'm afraid I just don't have a "favorite ELP song."

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 11:50 (seventeen years ago)

Robby Krieger's opening guitar on "Peace Frog" certainly takes a big dump over anything that plopped out of ELP's pompous backside.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, that was a remarkably scatalogical post.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

scatOlogical (meaning the preoccupation with poop) and not scatAlogical (presumably meaning a preoccupation with wordless jazz vocals).

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

Alex, you are the one who knows about Coil and a particular record regarding Scatology which I bought years ago for cheap and didn't like.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Sunday, 19 April 2009 12:01 (seventeen years ago)

or maybe you don't, and that's fine. I'm just saying, I didn't dig it. And I don't know jack shit about Coil aside from that, really.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Sunday, 19 April 2009 12:01 (seventeen years ago)

Geddit? Jack Shit! Scatology! Bahahaha.

How can you not like that record? You need help.

^^^^^ Except I actually don't "mostly loathe" the Doors, I range from indifferent to "Hey, that's not a half bad song at all" to "Fuck yeah!" So, probably, "Love Her Madly" vs. nothing.

OK, fine, yes, I Goggled it (Pancakes Hackman), Sunday, 19 April 2009 12:47 (seventeen years ago)

"break on thru" vs "the endless enigma" = win for ELP even tho I like plenty of Doors tracks.

mroo (Pashmina), Sunday, 19 April 2009 13:04 (seventeen years ago)

You could give "windowpane" a try maybe bimb.

mroo (Pashmina), Sunday, 19 April 2009 13:04 (seventeen years ago)

Battles of the worst is more difficult for me. Would be "The End" Vs. "Toccata" or "The Barbarian", I guess.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 19 April 2009 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

Are we counting Emerson, Lake, and Powell?

Mark, Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

"The Barbarian" for the worst ELP track??

Sundar, Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

Like I say, Bartok deserves most of the credit but I mean, it's Bartok on distorted organ, you know?

Sundar, Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

the more that I think of it "Touch Me" is my favorite Doors song
but the endless enigma is definitely my favorite ELP song and it sucks you can't hear it all on youtube

Mulvaney, Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

Break on Through > Lucky Man. That Keith Emerson synthesizer part no longer astonishes.

Hah! Contrarians take a beating, for once!

Soukesian, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 23:05 (seventeen years ago)

I might take the best Doors song over the best ELP song too but I'm curious why ELP has had such an extremely dismal reputation amongst critics. They're not my favourite prog band but they were tight and they did have some decent tunes that weren't that far removed from other music of that era. Like, why is it rare to read reviews that say things like "Sometimes they overplay a bit but 'From the Beginning' is pretty."?

Sundar, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

26 of you are pooheads. alpha whales win again

Check out Dick Hyman's "The Minotaur" to hear how much further out Emerson coulda taken it.

I wish he hadn't adapted my critique of his "ilxor" moniker (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 30 April 2009 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

Missed this one, but prefer "Karn Evil 9" to "Strange Days" any day.

I like the ELP song "Knife Edge" more than I like any Doors song.
