Foreigner - "Juke Box Hero" - dumbest, most laughable song ever, or....do you actually rock out to this faux macho crap?

Okay let's get a verdict on this one. I bought this single when I was a wee young thing and I liked it, but you know being a young'un some things I have to forgive myself. Because when I hear this song now (as I did today at the grocery store) it makes me LOLZ so hard. In fact, I laughed out loud in the grocery store. It's like a comedy record to me now. It takes macho rock n' roll fantasies to some level that is so extreme, it can only be laughable to me. I mean I love Journey, and I've actually found recently that I can love Loverboy. Name any other bands in this general realm and I'm probably fine with them. Hell, I don't even mind some OTHER Foreigner songs, but this one just makes me laugh. What do you think?

I'd You Tube it, but I'm so sick and tired of the way you can't find the real videos on You Tube now, just 30 million live versions. Happens every damn time I try to find something now.

It's laughable AND I rock out to it.

President Keyes, Sunday, 19 April 2009 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Damn! I didn't make a poll option for that.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Sunday, 19 April 2009 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

My favorite song in the world when I was 11. Really best to think of it as a kids song I think.

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Sunday, 19 April 2009 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

Oh my goodness! I didn't expect this, I'm quite sorry. I wouldn't have a problem with it if some sympathetic moderator agreed and locked thread.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Sunday, 19 April 2009 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

or maybe mods can add poll options?

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah!!! Let the mods add the poll options! ;)

Better yet, let them dig a decent You Tube thread up for the folks who don't know about this song yet.

ugh

(ooo)genesis (k3vin k.), Sunday, 19 April 2009 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

Do we really need a poll? We could just talk about the song.

PUKE box hero morelike

i am david suzuki (get bent), Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:02 (seventeen years ago)

i am with the consensus.

song was used to good effect here (at about 2:30)

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:07 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not even sure what's supposed to be macho about this song about a guitar player. I like the chorus. It sounds like Styx.

So I guess I'm with the "laughable but fun" crowd?

Sundar, Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

It's a song about every douche I hated in high school.

Hideous Lump, Sunday, 19 April 2009 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

Sad wallflowers from small towns who don't even have anyone to go to, like, the Head East show with but love rock'n'roll so much it lights up their souls out just to hang in the alley behind the War Memorial or whatever, which inspires them to find some comfort and sense of achievement by learning to play guitar?

You are a very mean person.

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Sunday, 19 April 2009 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

I hated you in high school.

Hideous Lump, Sunday, 19 April 2009 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

eternally a classic for me, mainly (only) because of that one guy in the bar that one night, who very earnestly "acted" out the song on the dance floor, and even pushed an imaginary mike in front of complete strangers, so that they could join in on the chorus...

henry s, Sunday, 19 April 2009 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

Never a fan of this song, but Foreigner did have their odd, fleeting moments (notably "Urgent" and "Long, Long Way from Home").

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

dumbest, most laughable song ever

It's not even the dumbest, most laughable song in Foreigner's repertoire (that would be "Dirty White Boy").

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 April 2009 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

Johnny may be onto something there.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

"Urgent" haha. Doitquickdoiturgent.

viborg, Sunday, 19 April 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

I still rock out to it though. I really hope people actually hooked up to that song.

viborg, Sunday, 19 April 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

"Urgent" has a great hook. Laugh it up, but it's true.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 19 April 2009 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

Very laughable, very rockable. For that matter, who told you rock and roll was supposed to be serious?

WITH THAT ONE GUITAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR

chocolatepiekid, Monday, 20 April 2009 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

xpost

I'm not being sarcastic. It's a catchy song, and I wish more cock rock had saxophones in it.

viborg, Monday, 20 April 2009 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

Haha. Yeah, Urgent isn't too bad, actually. Never heard "Dirty White Boy". Scared to at this point.

^^^See this is the kind of thing I really wanted from this thread. Classic.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Monday, 20 April 2009 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

I do like quite a bit of Foreigner stuff, but it's not like "Jukebox Hero" has ever been among my favourites.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 20 April 2009 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

Soul Asylum used to cover this live in the '80s.

Anyway, less good than several songs on the first 4 albums by the band that did it (not to mention "I Want To Know What Love Is.") But still pretty good.

xhuxk, Monday, 20 April 2009 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

bimble we do not need 2 polls about this song and mine is the definitive one anyway: JUKEBOX HERO POLL

some dude, Monday, 20 April 2009 01:58 (seventeen years ago)

Hahah. Yeah, looks like I put a space between "juke" & "box" when searching. Ah well. I like yours, too! Cool that both have three options.

Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Monday, 20 April 2009 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

It's all part of my rock 'n' roll fantasy.

james k polk, Monday, 20 April 2009 06:00 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 1 May 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

It's laughable AND I rock out to it.

^This

--so how do I vote? I went with option one. Silly or not, it's an exciting and dynamic pop hit.

Nate Carson, Friday, 1 May 2009 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
