Let's put the sleeve up

I remember how hard this record was to find back in the day. I had to special order it. I didn't like it much, though. I heard "It's Luxury" at the goth club some time in the last year, though, and was really rather impressed with it.

Really should check this out, love Gordon Sharp's contributions to This Mortal Coil but shamefully never ventured further. Take it this would be a good place to start.

"It's Luxury" is a fantastic song, the rest of it is pretty forgettable

i remember debating very seriously whether to by this when i was in tower records in nyc in the 80's. i loved what the dude did on the this mortal coil album and i held the album in my hand forever. but then i didn't for some reason. probably just bought another felt album i didn't have. tower used to have such a great import vinyl section back then.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Disagree with the prevailing wisdom here. There are other songs as good as "It's Luxury"... just not on this album, ha ha. No, I like this album for reals. Nothing like his TMC stuff, but good, if torturous.

The whole album is fantastic, not sure where all the hate is coming from, I had trouble choosing.

I guess there's a cloying density that could be off-putting, but that's what I like about it.

Did the second Peel session by The Freeze ever come out? It wasn't that far away from this album but slightly more structured.

finally got this the other day and gave it a listen, awesome, wish I'd discovered it sooner because I think it would have meant more to me then than it will now

akm, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 05:09 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, if I had heard this when I was maybe 13 instead of 22 it would have had a much bigger impact. Cindytalk would have been like, my favorite band then.

four years pass...

On FB:

30 years ago cindytalk were a week or so into the recording of our first album "camouflage heart".we brought this song with us, a demo recorded, as we were shedding our freeze skin, in 1982.it was always destined to be a signature track on the album.strangely enough, this particular track could have turned up on the first this mortal coil album, "it'll end in tears", if ivo/4ad had had their way but i was determined not to disrupt the structure of "camouflage heart" and so withstood that pressure (ultimately altering the course of TMC as well, which i'm sure ivo would now look back on with some relief)… so, i can now announce that there will be a 30th anniversary edition of "camouflage heart" later in the year and that it will be on a very special label…

three months pass...

Just saw cindytalk play at the techtonics festival - really excellent show, but more importantly, they are now very good at delivering what they do.

I wouldn't usually think a band should re record old material, and especially not a band putting out fine new material, but the ambition of C H, the advance in technology and the reduction of the cost of the technology needed to put it together all mean that I'd love the hear what they could do with a CH version 2
