What a lovely trip back in time. State of the art dance music, 1985. The pretty ballad "Arena" remains my fave, though. Yes, I know there was a bonus EP that came with some copies of the LP. I didn't feel like including those tracks here, though.

guilty confession: when I was dancing to "you keep me hangin on" in clubs, I thought it was a Colourbox original

Yeah I'm surprised how well they did with that one, actually. That's kindof a hard song to really do well, I think.

voted The Moon Is Blue, but I have the 12" in my head and can't remember if it's any different from the LP version

sleepwalker best album intro ever. just give 'em whiskey still holds up well cuz everyone will always love prisoner samples. vocal version of whiskey on the EP not as great for some reason. say you still has the most glorious harmonies. moon is blue so beautiful. inside informer quirky in a way that i could never hang with totally, but still the vocals so good. arena is the sleeper here. though i might prefer the EP version. you keep me hangin' on might be my LEAST fave thing on one of my favorite albums. anyway, i can't choose. and if the mini-lp were included in this poll, i would have to rep for the amazing one two punch of edit the dragon/hipnition. edit the dragon inspires me to this day. and hipnition is beyond cool. those two tracks would make my top ten colourbox tracks list. along with baby i love you so, tarantula, breakdown, world cup theme, looks like we're shy one horse, just give 'em whiskey, say you, and arena.

"say you" is great. i remember also loving "arena" at the time. haven't listened to this in years...

Dan S, Monday, 11 May 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

See, the CD has bonus tracks of "world cup" and "Baby I love you so" plus b-sides.

Amirite that if those had been in this poll, none of the other tracks would get a look in?

Mark G, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 06:53 (sixteen years ago)

my cd copy doesn't have World Cup ?

ah, it's the other one called "Colourbox" I'm thinking of.

Mark G, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 08:27 (sixteen years ago)

World Cup Theme is the greatest piece of music ever committed by humans, it would be unfair in any poll

the sound of mu (sic), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 10:58 (sixteen years ago)

Woah, yeah! That's more votes than I might have expected! Well done ILM!

Sleepwalker is lovely but slight, shame it didn't get any votes. Sleepwalker/Whiskey/Say You/Moon is Blue is about as good an opening sequence as any.

six years pass...

I foolishly passed on the complete Colourbox box set that came out in 2012. And these days, physical print runs are tiny so if you snooze, you lose.

Rectified that mistake today and I absolutely adore this package, the postcards with each 12" cover, the 4 discs collecting every version, it's brilliant. Cost a bundle but it's only money.
