Smooth Criminal

I have always said MJ needs to look to the man in the mirror lately. I like that one.

@kanyewest (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 15 May 2009 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

when I was 8, my fave was "Speed Demon," but I think as an adult it's "The Way You Make Me Feel"

@kanyewest (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 15 May 2009 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

This is the weakest of his four blockbusters. I voted for "Leave Me Alone" because I'm not in the mood to relisten to "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (which I always forget was the FIRST single).

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 15 May 2009 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

liberian girl, never had this album though

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Friday, 15 May 2009 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

When it came out I really liked "Dirty Diana", but I had to vote for "Smooth Criminal", because the lyrics are unintelligible but genius when you finally work out what they are.

velko, Friday, 15 May 2009 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

Just Good Friends. Copied to cassette from the library, I think this was the first album I had&definitely top for calories burnt, trying to work out what dancing was.

ogmor, Friday, 15 May 2009 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

I used to love all three ballads. "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is a bit too sappy nowadays, the same about "Man In The Mirror" in spite of great lyrics. "Liberaian Girl" still holds up as a lovely song though, so I voted for that one.

Of course the faster songs are mostly all great too.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 15 May 2009 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

^^ don't mind the sappiness tho. phrasing is so good on man in the mirror, maybe his most artful use of those 'dah' bursts and gasps. it's been awhile, didn't even remember some of these from their names, liberian girl is awesome

"Smooth Criminal" for sure, despite the fact that I find myself singing "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" in a bizarre duet with myself all the time these days.

Totally identify with this. But I'm gonna go with "Dirty Diana" anyway, for old times sake, and because it doesn't look like anybody else is going to.

Man, when you look through the old Bad poll, a lot of the same posters and same responses - we need to start thinking about a new hobby, guys.

Mark, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 23:53 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

lol to Speed Demon being the only one without votes. It's the only one I skip. The verse bassline is great but the chorus melody=zzzzzzzz.

I woulda voted for either Bad, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, or Liberian Girl.

leave me alone is totally underrated. classic video too. i like most of this album even though you can see it was a bit of a drop off (nowhere near as dramatic as greg tate made out in his 87 review though) but bad is a bit silly. and i kinda have to tip my hat to mike for using typical blues time signature for the way you make me feel. cant imagine many other RnB artists doing that at that time.

Wow! I had no idea that Richard Price (of Clockers and The Wire fame) wrote the screenplay for the "Bad" video/short film!
