never watched a minute of this show before about 9 weeks ago. my (11 year old) niece loves it so i wanted to see if i could possibly not hate it. a couple singers surprised me ~once~ with a good performance (i liked Lil one time, then she wore thin), or a nice song choice (Adam choosing Tears for Fears for his 80's choice;Alison choosing Bonnie Raitt and nailing it) or something. Adam really brings it and seems to me what the show should be about; just wish he didn't go all "showoff in the upper register" every time. he should heed the advice Slash gave him:(paraphrase)"you sound cool when you stay in a lower register"....
Kris excels at sap. not a big fan of sap.
in the end i actually liked Alison the best

I'll go with Kris. Adam makes for great television and seems like a nice guy, but you know you'd hit the skip button lightening quick if any of his Sebastian Bach nonsense came on your iPod.

The best voice finished 3rd.

vs the mrazzy stylings of Kris Allen which you would listen to? I like both of them but Adam has clearly outperformed everyone over the course of the season (bar Allison, maybe).

Naw, Lambert might have outscreamed Kris, but outperformed? I think not. I'm voting for the best artist and singer: Kris Allen.

But I'm very happy it's down to these two, they both seem very sweet. I love the whole painted/not-painted fingernail thing.

You def picked the wrong year to start.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

Looking back on it now, I think Simon might have been right about Allison. Great voice, totally invisible personality though. She came to this contest about three years before she should've.

Kris has been my second choice all year long up until the point Allison left, so now he's my vote by default. I like him well enough, and suspect he could probably make a really profitable record if he goes down his breezy Jason Mraz/Jack Johnson road.

Of course, I liked David Cook the most last year too and still haven't listened to his record yet.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

I don't understand what personality deficiency Allison had that the other contestants didn't. Simon kept harping on it but I was under the impression that he was just reaching for random ways to undermine her.

It wasn't a big deal, but now that I'm a couple weeks removed from her being in the contest I really don't remember much about her other than that she was a quirky 16/17yo. And I don't think she was lazy like Jason Castro or anything, but I'm not sure she knew yet how to really put herself way out there enough to even come close to winning.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

I <3 Allison, and I think she'll do just fine outside of Idol.

This is my first year of regular watching too, but I've seen enough snippets of Studdard, Hicks, Archuleta etc. etc. to think this wasn't a bad season at all. Kris has had a couple good nights, but I'm voting Adam for "Ring Of Fire" and "Tracks of my Tears," two great moments of reality TV imo.

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

As a whole, this is probably tied with S7 as the most talented all around. But there were definitely certain contestants I liked in other seasons much more than any of them this year.

Lambert is sooooooo terrible zomg, I don't get it at all. What would an album of his even sound like, and who would actually for that shit? Anyway he's so totally winning this.

Exactly! Talk to the likes of Tape Store next week and he'll/they'll be all like "Kris who?" Artist! Ha!
