There are kazillion threads for German minimalism and its history, but I want to devote a thread for the other types German electronic music, the stuff that I've personally loved ever since I was teen, but which doesn't seem to get much props these days. So this thread is for Westbam and Sven Väth and Hardfloor and Marusha and Air Liquide and DJ Tom & Norman and Cosmic Baby and all the other uncool people. Keep the spirit alive!
Let's start the thread with this beautiful house/trance tune that I rediscovered while going through my old compilation CDs:
Apparently this was among the first records released by Spyra. Pretty nice way to start a career!

Speaking of Hardfloor, their acid house remix of Mory Kante's "Yeke Yeke" was a big dancefloor hit in 1995, and despite the rather unlikely mixture of styles, it works perfectly:

probably still my favourite Hell track
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 21 May 2009 13:13 (seventeen years ago)
That is a nice tune indeed, I love how beefed up he makes the standard house piano sound in it.

Time Modem were awesome:
Into Magic - Zauberstab (very popular in Spain at the time)
Most of the Torsten Fenslau-related projects I've heard are great:
Abfahrt - Alone (it's me) [this is from 1989 actually]
For some 90s' German acid/psy-trance goodies (Air Liquide, Cybersnack, Planet BEN, Electric Universe, Shiva Chandra and X-Dream) check out the mix I submitted to the last ILM mixing contest.

I have to say, though, that this is my favourite Hell tune:
Hell - Berimbau

(ok to be fair not German but in the style)

Whoa, those Time Modem tunes are indeed awesome!

After 15+ years, Air Liquide is still one of my favourite bands, and I'm still trying complete my collection of their releases from 1992-95. (Which is pretty hard these days, so if any of you have some Air Liquide CDs to sell, let me know.)
― Tuomas, Friday, 22 May 2009 13:36 (seventeen years ago)
First time I heard Air Liquide was in this compilation which was recommended by djfrankiebones at the discogs board. The Air Liquide track is my favorite in the disc, mind-melting acid trance.

Remember when Dance 2 Trance and Paul van Dyk were still the shit?

Speaking of Paul van Dyk, the original For an Angel was so much better than all the pop trance remixes that followed.

Though this one was always my favourite tune of his. When the main melody finally kicks in after 3 minutes of buildup, the moment is simply sublime.

Not necessarily German, but I alert you to this
― Kommen sie bitte und listen to Kraftwerk (EDB), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:11 (sixteen years ago)
Thanks, that looks cool!

I found this this album from 1994 in the dollar bin in a second hand store in Hamburg, and man is it great! Trancey techno with aetheric drones and space synths, they don't make stuff like this anymore.

I know I've repped it many times on ILM, but IMO this is pretty much the best house tune of the 90s (alongside Paperclip People's "Throw"). 1994 was such an amazing year for electronic music.

It doesn't more banging than this: no basslines, no synths, just a couple of samples and some hard, hard beats.

"it doesn't get"

Man, someone's uploaded a good quality version of Marusha's "Raveland", this brings back memories...

I can't believe it's been over 15 years since this was new. What happened to the future we were promised?

Revive, because of the 1990s electronic music poll...

It's a shame both Khan and Walker went to doing boring electro stuff, Radiowaves from 1995 is such a thing of acid trance beauty!

This has got to be one of the most maximalist hardtrance tunes ever... I love how they just keep adding new elements to the tune so it never really repeats itself longer than a few loops.

Btw, I've always kinda wondered about the intro to "Broadcast", is it sampled from somewhere?

This set by Sven Väth, man oh man! The sequence from "Blue Illusion" to "Turkish Bazar" to "Caliber" is just epic!

Nice. I've been looking for Spotify playlists of this kind of stuff to little avail, this thread looks fun.
