Ice.

Vanilla Ice Vs. Mc Hammer

xhuxk, Thursday, 21 May 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

I'd definitely go for Hammer overall, but limited to these two songs it's so obviously "Ice Ice Baby".

The-Reverend (rev), Thursday, 21 May 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah it's "Ice" for me as well. Both are at least as good as the songs from which they take their samples, but "Ice Ice Baby" is considerably better.

touch my bum / this is life (daavid), Thursday, 21 May 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

...even if the idiots from Virgin made poor Vanilla apologize for it.

I'm gonna challenge some opinions and say:

Super Freak >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ice Ice Baby >> U Can't Touch This >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Under Pressure

The-Reverend (rev), Thursday, 21 May 2009 21:10 (sixteen years ago)

U Can't Touch This >> Ice Ice Baby >>>>> Super Freak >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Under Pressure

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 21 May 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)

wtf, "Unde Pressure" is easily the best of those four

Banvil! The Story of Banvil (Tape Store), Thursday, 21 May 2009 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

I fell in love with Hammer when Pump It Up came out, loved him through Let's Get it Started, and was overwhelmed with him when the 2nd version of Put Me in the Mix came out. Big fan for a minute.

Vanilla Ice came out on Ichiban Records initially. I was a zealot for Southern/Miami reppin rap (duh). Was trying REALLY hard to find something to like about Vanilla circa Ichiban era. Couldn't.

When Hammer went closer to pop, I was like, eh, that's fine. Don't love it, won't buy it, but still works on some level. Then he got that friend with the grease pyramid hairdo, and a whole new level of Hammer came about (see Taco Bell tv ad).

Vanilla's contract got bought by a larger label, and they just repackaged him (much like Hammer's career), but still, new packaging didn't help.

Ironically, Hammer actually has roots in the Miami music industry, which many Miami artists have stories about. No Miami artist has personal stories about "flow like a harpoon".

Never, NEVER, understood the gen x love for Vanilla. Gen Y, well, I get the nostalgia factor.

ANYTHING LESS THAN THE BEST IS A FELONY.

languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Thursday, 21 May 2009 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

"ring 'em", "turn this mutha out", "pump it up (here's the news)"...man Let's Get is Started is fucking classic and super innovative productionwise.

U Can't Touch This

zeus, Thursday, 21 May 2009 22:09 (sixteen years ago)

STOP

I'm guessing this was a joke because it can be for either song, in which case LOL

billstevejim, Friday, 22 May 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

I wish I could find that clip of Outkast saying "Hammer will whoop yo ass."

billstevejim, Friday, 22 May 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

"Run up on Hammer if you want to. Hammer will beat yo muthafukkin' ass"

billstevejim, Friday, 22 May 2009 00:41 (sixteen years ago)

MC Hammer was the first concert of practically everyone I know.

cant go with u too many alfbrees (Abbott), Saturday, 23 May 2009 00:24 (sixteen years ago)

"U Can't Touch This" was very obviously the least horrible out of these two.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 23 May 2009 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

This pretty much comes down to whether you prefer 'Changes' or 'Super Freak.'

cant go with u too many alfbrees (Abbott), Sunday, 24 May 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

What if you like "Under Pressure"

μ-Fish (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 24 May 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

Hammer ftw and Let's Get It Started is a legitimately dope album imo

μ-Fish (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 24 May 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

ND WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT GEIR WLD GO FOR SUPER FREAK????

"Super Freak" is great actually. And better than "Under Pressure". But I give no bonus points for anything that is sampled. I despise sampling entire loops.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 24 May 2009 18:58 (sixteen years ago)

And yet you quoted someone's post

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

i was going to say, with 2 options and 50+ voters I can't think of any time I've seen a tie, not that poll results particularly stick with me or anything though.

Chuck D gave a lecture at my college in 1990 and expressed admiration for both of these artists, which blew some minds. He also said his favorite rapper was Treach from Naughty by Nature.

Mark, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 01:25 (sixteen years ago)

Chuck actually helped Ice get a deal iirc
