I had been lapping up all the leaks and promo stuff but I'm reeling at how well this holds as an album.

i want to say that these girls do nothing but the album really rides on the fact that they can do these wispy, frothy songs like "so good" and "bed rest" and also these thumping, powerful songs like "p is for power" and "we fuck you" and "drink in my cup"

The "How'd I let him come back" riff in So Good is, um , so gooood.

"devotion" -> "freaky freaky" -> "bed rest" is the best stretch i think

"devotion" is amazing - so motionless

the album is sequenced so well too - "friend lover" is such a revelation coming after the "devotion" -> "bed rest" run

it would have been a cute moment of ladylike behaviour if they'd left it clean

Electrik Red – will there ever be another album?

Man, someone just asked me about that today.

How to Be a Lady’s so slept on! It’s a perfect record.

Well that’s the point – it’s slept on! If everybody had just bought it then we’d have probably made four records by now. Solange loves that Electrik Red album. Every time we get a chance to talk she’s like ‘Electrik Red, that album…’. And I’m like ‘I know!’. We hit a home run with that album. But again, it comes back to marketing, there’s a lot of things that have to happen – people have to know that it’s there… It’s almost becoming a little cultural thing of its own though.

yeah beyond this did this record ever have much traction in the SJ or feminist community? posting on ilx always makes it hard to judge what the real world thinks of things but it seems like this was a couple years too early for both r&b's acceptance by the pitchfork crowd and the rise of tumblr etc

My first impression 1.5 songs in is that it’s okay

were you generally into the-dream/tricky stewart stuff from around this time ?

I took a quick glance through their production credits and basically I only ever cared about stuff they did with Beyoncé and Rihanna

the elektrik red album is great to me, but I like a ton of what they were making around this time generally...the mariah carey albums are really good too (I remember liking one more than the other but I forget which)
