Meh. This guy showed promise for unchallenging but catchy pop/rock with Cuts Like A Knife, then . . . long fall down.

He peaked here, though. CLAK is all about "This Time."

besides, a guy like Adams doesn't have promise -- he has happy accidents.

"When you're lying here in my arms, I'm finding it hard to believe we're in heaven" has to be among the most awkwardly phrased lyrics in any hit song by a native English speaker. Still, "Heaven".

I agree with this -- used to love this song (and the video) but "Summer of '69" is my jam now.

That was #2. It's kind of a weird one. Lyrically, it seems like a "Jack & Diane"-style boomer suicide anthem. However, the music just doesn't seem to jive with the sentiment for me, even in an ironic happy/sad way. Also, the end of the video is pretty ominous.

The guy was surely still a d-lister before this album, though, so how did he score a Tina Turner duet with "It's Only Love"? (which is definitely one of the album's better songs)

The "Cuts Like a Knife" and "Reckless" albums aren't all bad. Surely this album contained "Heaven" and I don't exactly love it for that, but it's a decent mainstream rock album. Much better than the balladeer he got known as in the 90s.

Not sure about the debut. Off of You Want It You Got It "Fits Ya Good" and "Lonely Nights" were decent AOR singles. "Lonely Nights" maybe better than decent iirc. Nice call-and-response backing vocal on the outro.

second, "run to you" is actually a pretty cool song w/ an interesting guitar sound. added bonus: Lysette Anthony is the chick in the video (she's also the chick in Depeche Mode's "I Feel You" video).

"Run to You" is a fun riff to play while you're just mindlessly noodling on the guitar in front of the tv or something.

When my family moved away from our hometown, some of my dad's friends and colleagues put together a video that included a photo montage set to "Heaven." Later (though not much later), I heard the song in the opening credit sequence to the Christopher Atkins stripper drama A Night in Heaven. A weird pair of associations to have with a song.
