honestly don't think I can decide between 'here come the warm jets' and 'spider and I'

perfect vs. perfect

it's certainly not either of the middle two tho

Warm Jets > Spider >>>>>>>>>>> Tiger Mt >>>>> Spirits

Nice timing on this thread -- I've been thinking about/listening to these four a lot lately.

why thank you

s1ocki, Monday, 25 May 2009 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

Spider, which also has the honor of being among Eno's best tunes period.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

Yes.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 02:51 (seventeen years ago)

warm jets

akm, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i'm voting for 'warm jets.'

I've never heard of a single one of those blogs. (Matt P), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 03:02 (seventeen years ago)

Warm Jets. Honorable mention to Spirits, which is unsettling and strange despite doing almost nothing to announce its presence, and signaled his path forward thereafter. For reference:

Warm Jets

Tiger Mountain

Spirits Drifting

Spider and I

Can I say that Spirits Drifiting is more of a coda and Everything Merges With the Night is the real last song on Another Green World?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

Sure

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

Not so sure. Tonight's the first time I've listened to Spirits Drifting as something other than coda, as a stand alone entity, and it's bowling me over. I thought codas are supposed to bring some resolution, but this tends in the opposite direction.

Here Come The Warm Jets Here Come The Warm Jets Here Come The Warm Jets!

I actually tried to play that song for my friend tonight, I let him hear my iPod. He said "let's get stoned first before I hear that" LOL

Sacriligiously Dead (Bimble), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

"Jets" for me - that circular melody could've sustained itself for another 10 minutes and I'd be happy.

I wish he hadn't adapted my critique of his "ilxor" moniker (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:58 (seventeen years ago)

Now somebody's got to poll the best first song, just for the opportunity of titling the thread "POLL Position"...

Can I say that Spirits Drifiting is more of a coda and Everything Merges With the Night is the real last song on Another Green World?

You can but how songy are the other three? And besides, part of the genius of Another Green World is its fragmented, coda-like, overheard nature.

Anyhoo, song or coda, "Spirits Drifting" for me. It's like getting a really great massage from someone you despise.

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 05:58 (seventeen years ago)

"Here Come The Warm Jets" (wow, that feels goofy to type); I'm a sucker for a song that seems to have been written and performed backwards.

dulce est desipere in loco (Euler), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:33 (seventeen years ago)

Special write-in vote for the last song of side one of the Tiger Mountain LP, "The Great Pretender," for the lock-groove that sounds like crickets chirping endlessly.

What happens on the CD version of that?

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

You can but how songy are the other three?

"Spider and I" is pretty songy, Kev...

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

seriously this is so easy warm jets

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Monday, 1 June 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

WTF -- it's not that easy.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

"Jets" for me - that circular melody could've sustained itself for another 10 minutes and I'd be happy.

Now reading the Eno bio "On Some Faraway Beach," which mentions that "Jets" was originally intended to be 10 minutes long. So now you can suffer in disappointment for what might have been.

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

I'm the only one who voted for "Spirits Drifting???" Wonder if Geeta would've backed me up.

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 06:04 (seventeen years ago)

Taking Tiger Mountain is one of my favorite songs ever, so that.

Eazy, Tuesday, 2 June 2009 06:21 (seventeen years ago)

TTM reminds me of the summer my cat died.

"here come the warm jets" wins because it is encoded in the collective unconscious of humankind, the others are just songs

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 June 2009 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

^^^Wrong (on the latter point, anyway)
