RIP

I have been in love with her cover of If You Could Read My Mind since I found it in a dollar bin earlier this year.

Her version of "Stormy Weather" is killer too. I like to follow that with Carol Douglas's "A Hurricane Is Coming Tonight" then "Landslide" by Croisette then "Earthquake!" by Zenda Jacks then finish with Cerrone's "Supernature" because it's about creatures coming up from the ground.

i've always loved 'gonna get along without you now', such a gorgeous light-disco song. cure-all for the dumpees. the mad twee original is nice too

I'd never heard her before. Watched some youtube vids, some really great tunes, and she was gorgeous, too. It's always somethin to hear someone great and new, but a little something else when through an RIP thread :-/

search: "Somebody's Eyes" - gorgeous/melancholy/yearning disco ballad, (originally?) only available as b-side of the "If You Could Read My Mind" 12". "If You Could Read My Mind" was lionized in the book Love Saves The Day as one of the ultimate 12 West anthems - the deep, minimal bassline seems to anticipate ESG and Murk. "Somebody's Eyes" became one of the greatest 'sleaze' tracks at The Saint and elsewhere.

"Gonna Get Along Without You Now" is lovely too - though the version I first heard/loved is a later remix and I'm not sure which one... (a mystery to solve some day)

her version of "Secret Love" is fun too (sweet licks) - find it on the If You Could Read My Mind LP pictured at top of thread. LP features Dennis Bovell and Nick Straker, among others.
