The sinking ship that is Gold Music Radio

No Bottom To The Top retrochart show this week - the signs seem to be that it's been pulled, but the website and schedule haven't been updated.

Why? Because the people who "run" Gold are useless fucking wankers who don't give a shit.

I gather that ALL the Gold/xfm backroom staff, including programmers, were made redundant last week to increase shareholder dividends cut costs. But there you go - no apology to the listeners, robot radio, and they wonder why their ratings are crashing through to the basement.

God save us from egocratic "managers" who think they can run things when they can't even run an egg and spoon race.

From Gold Music to Newcastle FC, businesses that should be thriving get crippled by idiots who think they know better. All of course driven by the 21st-century mantra: "Never mind the customers or the employees, please the shareholders."

No wonder capitalism is going down the toilet.

People want these sorts of 'oldies' radio stations to play "stuff we forgot we liked, and stuff we don't remember hearing then"

The business model heads towards playing any from the "top 1000" from market research.

So, it's "another day in paradise" for you....

Audience figure trends for the station over the last decade:

March 1999 March 2009
Hours: 10,934,000 2,549,000 Down -76.7%
Reach: 1,328,000 321,000 Down -75.8%

One could usefully conclude that this business model isn't working, and it can't all be ascribable to competition from iPods, the internet in general and the lack of an FM frequency.

Maybe if they'd got rid of the overpaid PR parasites and programme stuff their audience might actually have wanted to hear they wouldn't be in their present mess.
