So I'm reading about all the fanzines, but what are you're favourite ezines, the ones you go back to on a daily basis? And why?

Why, Freaky Trigger :).

Used to also be Tangents, but I've gone off that for some reason.

I think the idea of an ezine as a standalone thing like a printzine is kind of dead - they're all becoming much more porous cf the relationship between FT / ILM. The weblogs/journals I like talk about music and are much closer to the fanzines of old than stuff like FT/Tangents/Pitchfork.

The problem with this question is that people go all reticent. A nameless individual was trying last night to get me to post a question saying "Who should win the music webby?" and be rude about certain other music sites but I don't want to be though interested parties could e-mail.

What I will say in general is that Tangents is still good for its wider cultural coverage and its committment to a personal and emotional reaction to music. There is a case to be made that the here's-another-lost-mid-80s-indie-band-oh-cruel-posterity series of articles has run its course but on the other hand it's great that someone's rediscovering this stuff, as unfashionable in its way as prog (as Tim H has eloquently said elsewhere).

I cannot think of a single American ezine which is saying anything much relevant at the moment - one-person operations not counted. I have a hunch that Bombast XXX comes close. Actually Stopsmiling's good too - thats a printzine though first and foremost, isn't it? It's a huge shame Popped stopped updating. I suppose FT's an American ezine now, actually (though a possible domain name switch to freakytrigger.co.uk will scotch that).

*blush* Yes, we are in the process of re-launching the print version as a glossy instead of a 'zine. Hopefully it should be done next month with two more issues this year.

As for the eZine, it will relaunch, ideally, in a matter of days, with frequent updates.
