let free dom ring (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:13 (sixteen years ago)

apologies to a few dope songs like buy u a drank and stronger, it aint their fault they were made the same year as the BEST SINGLE OF THE DECADE

k3vin k., Friday, 5 June 2009 07:14 (sixteen years ago)

I'm so bored of most of the songs I used to love on here but "Crank Dat" is a love that will stand the test of time.

Gordon Brown Reason to Live (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:15 (sixteen years ago)

Alicia's vocals on "No One" annoyed the fuck outta for a few months, but then one day it just clicked.

a hater (The Reverend), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:23 (sixteen years ago)

i have alex in nyc style hate for that song

let free dom ring (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:27 (sixteen years ago)

yeah "no one" is wretched... her worst single for sure

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:28 (sixteen years ago)

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:32 (sixteen years ago)

glamorous is underrated by rev & sarges imho

autogucci cru (deej), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:33 (sixteen years ago)

it's def fergie's best single and i let it play out on the radio when i hear it now

let free dom ring (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:34 (sixteen years ago)

luda verse is good of course

let free dom ring (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:34 (sixteen years ago)

I find it barely tolerable. Fergie's singing voice has this very saw-like quality that doesn't stand with me.

a hater (The Reverend), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:41 (sixteen years ago)

HEY HEY YOU YOU

I donated and I expect some sort of reward measured in virgins. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 5 June 2009 07:52 (sixteen years ago)

That year I'd have voted for Sean Kingston. Now it's "Umbrella," easy.

Matos W.K., Friday, 5 June 2009 07:56 (sixteen years ago)

there are only 3 songs on that list that i don't love, and 2 of those i've never heard of (not that i'm likely to like maroon 5 or plain white ts). a stellar year which should be a somewhat tougher choice except 'umbrella' is really a song for the ages.

'glamorous' is perhaps the most surprising fergie single in retrospect - it's certainly the one where she sounds least ferg-like. not that you can really pin down "ferg-like" after the variation and breadth of the dutchess, but it's pretty restrained for her.

1. umbrella
2. glamorous
3. kiss kiss
4. say it right
5. no one
6. big girls don't cry
7. crank that (soulja boy)
8. beautiful girls
9. don't matter
10. girlfriend
11. what goes around...comes around
12. stronger

lex pretend, Friday, 5 June 2009 08:44 (sixteen years ago)

I might wanna change my vote to "Beautiful Girls".

Gordon Brown Reason to Live (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:48 (sixteen years ago)

why would anyone vote for that?

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:48 (sixteen years ago)

i actually voted for 'glamorous' on the basis that 'umbrella' will walk it

lex pretend, Friday, 5 June 2009 08:49 (sixteen years ago)

yeah same here.

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:50 (sixteen years ago)

'give it to me' is still so bad!!! i'd forgotten about it - how charmless can those three people (who are all usually good) be

lex pretend, Friday, 5 June 2009 08:52 (sixteen years ago)

Cos I still play "Beautiful Girls" but I never need to hear "Umbrella" ever again?

Gordon Brown Reason to Live (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

you should check out the maroon 5 song, I usually hate them but it's actually good.

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:54 (sixteen years ago)

why would you willingly listen to "beautiful girls"...?

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:55 (sixteen years ago)

Don't want to blow yr mind here but cos I really enjoy it.

Gordon Brown Reason to Live (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:55 (sixteen years ago)

does not compute.

ARE WE SOME FUCKING LADIES OR WHAT? (The Brainwasher), Friday, 5 June 2009 08:56 (sixteen years ago)

lol i just remembered jojo singing about doing the dutty wine in her answer record to 'beautiful girls'

lex pretend, Friday, 5 June 2009 09:00 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah lex, check out the M5 song. I'm not sure you'll like it, but you might.

a hater (The Reverend), Friday, 5 June 2009 09:02 (sixteen years ago)

That year I'd have voted for Sean Kingston. Now it's "Umbrella," easy.

Yeah, me too, I think. "What Goes Around ... Comes Around" also grew on me more and more over time. But almost every song here is good.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Friday, 5 June 2009 09:23 (sixteen years ago)

Brainwasher, I gotcha back

a hater (The Reverend), Friday, 5 June 2009 09:25 (sixteen years ago)

Voted "Umbrella" without a second thought. Love a bunch of these tho.

w/r/t Glamorous, I don't really love the original, but I've loved a bunch of the covers. I think it's a really well written song, even if I don't love Fergie doing it.

Mordy, Friday, 5 June 2009 09:56 (sixteen years ago)

dont really know so many of these but have quite a soft spot for 'this is why i'm hot'

cherry blossom, Friday, 5 June 2009 10:02 (sixteen years ago)

Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70FGeQmPjeg

(I voted "Umbrella".)

Paul in Santa Cruz, Friday, 5 June 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

"What Goes Around...Comes Around," followed by "Makes Me Wonder." Maybe the only year I prefer the white angst and fake soul moves over R&B and hip-hop.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 June 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

Nelly Furtado, "Say It Right"
Justin Timberlake, "What Goes Around...Comes Around"

one of these two for me; probably Nelly

"Crank Dat" is a love that will stand the test of time.

yea crank dat ftw

mark cl, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

love this tune

mark cl, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

Fucking hate that tune and Soulja Boy with burning passion

(besides "Yahh Trick Yahhhh!" is funnier)

1899 Horsey Horseless (HI DERE), Friday, 5 June 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

love both of those tunes

mark cl, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

the fact that lex has never heard "hey there delilah" is mind blowing to me, must be a uk thing. fucking envy him too

k3vin k., Friday, 5 June 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

Nah it was all over the place here too, it's a Lex thing.

Gordon Brown Reason to Live (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 June 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

the only one of these that I can ever remember is Crank Dat, so that wins

Kool G Lapp (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 June 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

It's always refreshing to enter the world of the ILX poptimists. I kinda think of, like, a handful of these songs as pretty great, with only Umbrella as classic, and a lot of novelty (Crank Dat, This Is Why I'm Hot).

i didn't see 'this is why i'm hot' on there. love that tune also

mark cl, Friday, 5 June 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

"Give It To Me" is such a dope diss song! So much attitude

i've seen the way you've treated other fuxxors you've been with (Tape Store), Friday, 5 June 2009 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

voted "beautiful girls," cause i found it hilarious and smiled and laughed every time i heard it. i guess technically i like "umbrella," "stronger," and "buy u a drank" more, but they've aged alot better and are more just plain 'ole good songs. also i still hear those songs on the radio, while "beautiful girls" will immaculately preserved in 2007 amber.

samosa gibreel, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

*forever be immaculately...

samosa gibreel, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

I choose deafness.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

We knew that seven years ago.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

Seriously, there isn't a decent song on the list.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

Stop shouting, deaf man.

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

I'd be more interested in seeing the elected #2 spot, as I think "Umbrella" will take this one big (yeah, I voted for it). My #2 would be "Say It Right", because I heard it on the radio yesterday (on the top 40 station no less) and it still sounded great: those drums!

dulce est desipere in loco (Euler), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

lol alex is fuckin old

k3vin k., Friday, 5 June 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

I Love You But I Have Chosen Deafness

The-Reverend (rev), Friday, 5 June 2009 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

I choose defness.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 5 June 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

I'm listening to the Timberlake song right now and I don't remember ever having heard it, which is odd cause I have the album. I have a gap in my pop knowledge corresponding to living in another country for almost half the year, but I love at least 6 of these songs. Big Girls don't cry is the fucking worst though. Voting This Is Why I'm Hot.

DJ Mr. Face Stabba, M.D. (Whitey on the Moon), Saturday, 6 June 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

This is between JT and Rihanna, isn't it?

I gave M5 a vote, am amazed anyone went with Mims.

Joseph McCombs, Saturday, 6 June 2009 15:29 (sixteen years ago)

Say It Right, though I did have the misfortune of being kept awake all night on a sleeper train by a very intimidating 18 year old Serbian playing it endlessly on his phone.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 7 June 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

i haven't been here in a week so...lemme just rank a list and be boring to get back in the swing of it. top 5:

Maroon 5, "Makes Me Wonder"
Fergie, "Glamorous" (would be #1 if the Stefani remix the Polow/Luda parts came from wasn't better)
Chris Brown, "Kiss Kiss"
Soulja Boy, "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)"
Mims, "This Is Why I'm Hot"

gonna be totally challopy and admit these songs all bore me to tears and i've never had any love for them:

Rihanna, "Umbrella"
Justin Timberlake, "What Goes Around...Comes Around"
T-Pain, "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')"
Kanye West, "Stronger"
Nelly Furtado, "Say It Right"

some dude, Sunday, 7 June 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

crank dat - i never got the hate for this song. YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!

also, it blends really well with homer singing the spiderpig song.

messiahwannabe, Sunday, 7 June 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, I totally get the hate for it, I just don't agree with it.
